Rumor has it that yesterday afternoon at 2.15PM local time, Khamenei collapsed and was taken to his special clinic. No one except his son and the doctors have since been allowed to get near him.
So far this has not been confirmed by any reliable News agencies, or the IRI state News agencies.
If true and if he dies then one could expect a three day chinese whispers game similar to Khomeini's death announcement being played by the authorities. The security forces would be deployed, but this time with the added fear of an uprising from Rafsanjani, Karubi. Mousavi camp.
Rumors of Khamenei's ill health have been circulating for a while and it is possible that given his ill health the Billions of dollars that ended up in Turkey was a measure to have funds outside the country ready for his family or the conservatives to have the resources to fight back or perhaps settle somewhere else if the current turmoil proved too much.
The Blog which seemed to have triggered off this News seemed to be this:-

I guess he lives but...
by ramintork on Mon Oct 19, 2009 08:17 AM PDTAs mentioned I'm glad he is alive for it would be too easy a death, and I would like to see him face a human right's court.
There is the possibility that we had been played by the authorities in testing the waters i.e. to check the opposition's reaction and be prepared for the actual day when it comes, or perhaps Sepah is preparing to present their military dictatorship without a Mullah proxy, or that he is simply a very ill man who made a recovery and was well enough to deal with an official visit.

by Shepesh on Fri Oct 16, 2009 09:53 AM PDTHe has blood on his hands, and has robbed the country. He is trying to sue Karroubi for standing up for the people. He is trying to murder minorities on trumped up charges and has put the best men and women of Iran in prisons and humiliates them by parading them on TV. This is no ordinary human being. I think the worst type of characters are those that pose as religious leaders and abuse their power. I for one will be rejoicing on his death (although I agree with the motive that is behind your sentiment)..

Update from Enduring America says:
by Shepesh on Thu Oct 15, 2009 03:06 PM PDTThe Supreme Leader’s Facebook site has the following message from Wednesday, “Today Noon; Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran attended a rite in respect of Imam Sadeq(A.S)”.
If true, this would disprove Tuesday’s Peiknet story, the original source of the current health rumors, that the Supreme Leader had been confined to his house by doctors.

by Cost-of-Progress on Thu Oct 15, 2009 09:32 AM PDTfrom an maerican coworker who's into this type of stuff, but would not reveal his source, that the guy is already dead and that the news will be announced on Friday.
Obviously, there's no way to confirm or deny this, but I guess we will see.
Is he dead yet?
by 1 hamvatan on Thu Oct 15, 2009 12:20 AM PDTThis is so funny, I bet you, no one wished Hitler to be dead as much as this piece of garbage (khamenei).
Let pray for his painful and rapid death. Amen.

by choghok on Wed Oct 14, 2009 01:32 PM PDTNo matter if it is cancer or a VD I just for a long and painful death.
For Gods sake, how long
by Shepesh on Wed Oct 14, 2009 12:16 PM PDTFor Gods sake, how long does it take to die of cancer? Lets hope his suffering and ours is over soon.
Sadly the Revolutionary Guard have too much to lose in terms of wealth and prestige and will take Ahmadinejad's side. That would be very dangerous for rafsanjani and Green Movement. Troubles ahead.
Type of cancer, prognosis, coma
by Faramarz_Fateh on Wed Oct 14, 2009 11:11 AM PDTMany people believe Khamenei has cancer of the prostate or bladder. The surgeon who operated on him in March 2008 lives in LA. His mouth is shut like 2 pieces of flat ground glass stuck with crazy glue. Since this guy's specialty is urology surgery the prostate or bladder cancer makes sense.
At his age prognosis depends on how early the problem was detected. Very late I hope. But, in general, going into coma for cancer or cancer treatment is not very usual.
Other rumor is the amount of opium consumed daily by Ali Geda. Since opiate based pain killers are normally prescribed for bladder cancer in the west, I give more probability to cancer of bladder and then to prostate. Lung cancer has a lot of coughing associated with it with 90% death prognosis in 2 years.
My hope is that he has SOME type of terminal cancer; the type is really not important.
...
by yolanda on Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:45 AM PDTI read the guy was diagnosed with lung cancer several years ago. It is amazing he has lasted this long........Lung cancer killed ABC anchorman, Peter Jennings, in 4 months (from diagnosis to death).....if this is true, hopefully there will be a new era!
Thanks for the rumor! Wow, Iran is at crossroad!
P.S. Maybe the "Death to the dictator" slogan has aggravated his condition 'cause people have been shouting the slogan for a couple of months.

I think the Guardian coucil will decide whether to have one head
by Anonymouse on Wed Oct 14, 2009 09:46 AM PDTI think the Guardian coucil will decide whether to have one head or a council. Rafsanjani as the head of Guardian council has been promoting the idea of a council and he has many supporters in that regard.
If Sepah and Mesvak Yazdi and cronies like him have their way they want a Pope more Catholic than Khamenei! And they will only relent if their choice leads to more chaos instead of stability by force.
I'd put my bet on Rafsanjani making a big push for a coucil. Afterall, Khamenei was not an "Imam" and does not have as much support as Khomeini had in his time, so his "choice" on who to succeed him is not as important.
Everything is sacred.

by ramintork on Wed Oct 14, 2009 09:37 AM PDTI really can't see his son pulling that off.
The real power is in the hand of Sepah so they would very quickly choose a new front man who is in line with their twisted mentality.
In IRI system powerful sons only have power as long as the fathers are alive. Look what happened to Khomeini's son.
I heard that too
by IRANdokht on Wed Oct 14, 2009 09:29 AM PDTand as I was rejoicing (sorry I know it's not nice but heck! couldn't think of anyone more deserving) my cousin explained how this could be even a worse turn of the events. If his son is picked to take his place as the lifelong leader(!), we'll be facing a lot worse times...
Does anyone think they can actually find someone in Qom to raise his son's religeous standing just like they did his?
