Agreed with Irandokht
by Iva (not verified) on Fri Oct 10, 2008 06:48 AM PDTWhy that young actress' choices in life are any concern of the writer of this article? People all around the world make decisions, some are good and some are bad decisions ... so what? Why do you find it necessary to tell her and many others that "she might have made a bad decision and might end up working in a coffee shop"?
"Mind your own business" is a very valuable advice.
A Wise Decision!
by Killjoy (not verified) on Thu Oct 09, 2008 05:38 PM PDTHers is a wise decision. U.S. is the land of opportunities for young and talented people like her.
I wish her the best of luck!
And what's wrong with working in a coffee shop? In many countries that I know of, they wouldn't even give you a job in a coffee shop, if you are from the Middle East.
Before the fall of communism, an Eastern European tennis coach said that here were thousands of higly talented, world-class tennis players who would love to leave their countries to go to the West.
I read recently that many Polish immigrant workers are going back to Poland because of the economic downturn in the West and better opportunities in their own country. Many Iranians will do the same when their country is free.
Today in Iran there are millions of ordinary people who would gladly leave Iran if they had a chance to settle in the free world. And I've read that every year 180,000 young Iranian are leaving for colleges outside Iran.
Who would want to see the mullahs every day of their lives and worry about getting harassed by their hired goons, after all?
How could Golshifteh leave
by Anonypishi (not verified) on Thu Oct 09, 2008 04:22 PM PDTHow could Golshifteh leave the intellectual environment of Iranian cinema and come to this stinky, cheesy Hollywood? How could she? Oh the sacrilege.
Aghaye Soltanpour, Golshifteh shiftehye aan cheezi shod keh jenabe, aali shodid.
Good for her, i think she
by LA (not verified) on Thu Oct 09, 2008 02:19 PM PDTGood for her, i think she has the right to choose where and how to live her life..If she wants to be here so be it, why not? Hollywood is looking for talented, ambitious, actor, writer, director, etc,,it doesn't matter where she/he come from, as long as she know her craft. i think after the release of movie "body of lie" in November she will get some attention, even-though her part was a small but she can get a good agent and publicist and with her unique face and youth she can get wherever she wants to.
Be supportive..
Sheefteh?
by Ali P. on Thu Oct 09, 2008 02:13 PM PDTIsn't "sheefteh", "infatuated" in Persian?
What makes you think she's infatuated with Hollywood, and not just interested in trying her chances at the Mecca of cinema, like those Iranians who want to be astrounats usually try to get a job at NASA?
I wish her good luck.
:-)
Yours,
Ali P.
doomed if she stays
by IRANdokht on Thu Oct 09, 2008 01:44 PM PDTdoomed if she goes....
if she goes back to Iran, people say she's a government agent (like in her recent Iranian of the Day post on this site) where she was accused by at least one "amazed activist" to be some part of the IRI regime.
If she stays we criticize her for having fallen for the glitter of Hollywood and not being good enough to get any roles.
Jaryaneh Molla Nasreddin o kharesheh: no matter what Molla does with his donkey, "we the people" are going to say our share of harfeh moft.
