Being Iranian

I met a dutch student today, around 30 years old, we chat a little
and he asked me if I am a Turkish? I replied No, I am Iranian. He got so embarrassed and asked me if I got offended. I replied "Not at all"

I have been thinking about it all day today, I know a number of my
friends get offended when they're asked if they are arab, mexican,
turkish, paki but they don't get offended if they are asked whether or not they are Italian!

If we are proud of our persian race why don't we get offended when we are asked if we are Italian? and why we get offended when we are asked whether or not we are from Bangladesh

After all we are all cousins. (My Israeli friend always says that to me too)

People who get offended by such harmless inquiries are just insecure.

90% of the time when someone asks if you're this or that, they just trying to break the ice and start a conversation.

Weirdos!

Once I asked a young Iranian lady, what village she was from (Considering more than half of the Iranian population is from rural areas, it seems to be a fair question).

Well, she got offended!

She took it as a cheap shot.

What is the world coming to?

People sometimes guess I am Armeninan, or Lebanese. Usually that's where they're from themselves, sometimes they knew someone from those countries and liked them enough to wish to meet more people like them.

I never get offended by that. If someone is asking you where you are from, you must have made a good impression. Otherwise people would just avoid you  ;-)
