Shah and Grace Kelly

Although assured that she could continue to practice her Catholic faith privately after her marriage, Maria Gabriella declined the Shah's proposal. (Thank goodness, as she would otherwise have been swept up in the Iranian Revolution!) Grace and the Shah of Iran became acquainted near the end of 1949 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel during the Shah's official visit to America. Grace's childhood friend (and later, her bridesmaid) Maree Frisby Rambo said in an interview with biographer Wendy Leigh that Kelly and the Shah had gone on at least six dates. The Shah had been the ruler of Iran since 1941, and was thirty years old at the time. The Shah besieged Kelly with vast amounts of jewelery including: a gold birdcage housing a diamond sapphire bird, a gold vanity case with a clasp set with thirty-two diamonds, and a gold bracelet with an intricate pearl and diamond face. Grace... had no intentions of marrying the Shah, and immediately sent the gifts back. She decided to keep the jewels and later presented the pieces to her bridesmaids as keepsakes on the eve of her wedding.[8]

I wonder who were Prince Chubby's girlfriends, anyone we know?!

Anyone "famous" like a 70s celebrity daughter, or any Mrs. Robinson like Googoosh or Shoorangiz Tabatabei!

Everything is sacred

Wow, a gossip party ;o)

There was something about the Shah, glory of the old Persia I suppose.

Had I been old enough in his time and he proposed, wouldn't have said no. Now I can only wish.

Actually she was tempted to marry the Shah

But her Mother didn't approve ...

It must have been around this period:

But She remained a loyal friend and once princess the Grimaldies were amongst the good friends of Iran's royal family. In addition to being the only royals to offer the Shah and his family assylum in Monaco. The Shah however declined so as not to create a diplomatic stir with France and probably because he feared that Monaco could be subject to terrorist attacks.

I also read a biography of Richard Burton a long time ago. It mentioned that during his stay in Monaco where he along with his then wife Elizabeth Taylor were guests of PRince Rainier and Grace Kelly, that Burton a little drunk started criticizing the Shah's Celebrations at Persepolis during a dinner party.

Grace staunchly defended the Shah against all the critics in the press and was so furious at Poor Burton for bringing up the matter that she left the table.

Embarrassed Burton tried clumsily to excuse himself to no effect. Finally Elizabeth Taylor ( who was to flirt with Ardeshir Zahedi shortly after her divorce from Burton) tried to calm Princess Grace who finally came back to the dinner table while Burton tried to swallow his pride with another shot of Gin and Tonic ...

;0)

No wonder Grace Kelly was known as a Volcano under a Mountain of Ice ...
