by yolanda on Thu Feb 04, 2010 05:33 AM PSTHi R2-D2,
I was searching for the English lyrics for "O Iran, O House of Hope", I accidentally found another English version for Morgh'e Sahar:
//hshajarian.wordpress.com/2008/01/26/morning-bird-morgh-e-sahar/
O Morning bird, sadly sing and remind me
Of my pain afresh with a burning sigh
Break this cage and turn it upside down
Wing tied nightingale, leave the corner of this cage
Compose the song of freedom for the mankind
And with a breath, set fire to the battlefield
Of the mass of this earth
The cruelty of tyrants and the injustice of huntsmen
Have broken my nest to the winds
O God, O turning globe, O nature
Turn our dark night into dawn…

by yolanda on Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:42 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
Thank you for the last video. I like Moshiri's poems very much. I posted several poems of his in a different blog before. My favorite one is "The Alley"

//iranian.com/main/comment/reply/92533/25...
It blew me away........I also posted other poems of his in a separate post....His poems are very pretty and touching. I think the guy is not afraid of revealing his emotions. Be very honest with you, I did not pay attention to poetry until I read about Rumi and Khayyam.......Persian poets are great! I hope they translate more Persian poetry into English and other languages, so more people can enjoy them.
thanks,

زبان آتش, فزیدون مشیری
R2-D2Tue Feb 02, 2010 12:45 PM PST

by yolanda on Mon Feb 01, 2010 06:06 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
Thank you for the info..What a brave man!!!!...... I think people in Iran are smart they know how to use metaphors and codes to convey their feelings.....like the poet of the song wrote about the freedom of a bird...but people got the message that it is beyond the freedom of a bird....that is awesome!
My favorite scenes from this song are the falling of Berlin Wall in 1989 and a lone Chinese man standing in front of the tanks in 1989. I hope freedom will come to Iran soon!
A very cool video, pretty melody, great lyrics, great singing, and beautiful stage decoration! It is a total package!

by R2-D2 on Mon Feb 01, 2010 05:23 PM PSTYolanda, He was banned to sing the song at the Bam Concert .. He sang the song despite the fact that he was told not to .. From what I understand, he had to pay a huge fine because of that!

by yolanda on Mon Feb 01, 2010 04:09 PM PSTHi R2-D2,
Thank you for the new link. I saved the new version. I think this version is the best 'cause I like the singing plus the beautiful Persian background on stage . A mural? so beautiful! (I think IC should design T-shirts with this type of Persian motif. I will buy it!) The fans were great and they were transfixed! I am a little surprised that IRI allowed this song to be spread.....the lyrics talks about "freedom".....even though it refers to the freedom of a bird.......I heard IRI has pretty strict censorship...everything has to be Islamic....actually I am glad that this song was able to pass the censorship and people enjoy it so much.....the second gentlemam in purple shirt sang just as well as the Ostaad...he has a amazing voice, too.
I will check if the poet has any poems translated into English.
Thank for sharing!

by R2-D2 on Mon Feb 01, 2010 01:20 PM PSTYolanda, I have to be honest with you: I didn't do the translation :)
When I noticed that you liked the song, and that you had saved it to your YouTube account, I did a search, and found the translation at this blog :)
This is a very famous song that all Iranian (Persian) artists try to include as part of their repertoire! However, in my opinion, no one does it as well as Ostaad Shajarian!
By the way, Morghe Sahar was originally a poem by the great Iranian (Persian) poet of the early to mid 20th century Malek o-Sho'arā Bahār :) The poem was later adapted to a song :)

by yolanda on Mon Feb 01, 2010 11:11 AM PSTHi! R2-D2,
Thank you so much for translating the lyrics. It is very beautiful! I like this part the most:
z’aah shararbar, een ghafas raa
barshekan o, zeer o zebar kon
- with a sigh that rains fire,
break this cage and overturn it
bolbol’e par-baste, ze kaaj’e ghafas daraa
naghme’ye azadi no’e bashar saraa
-flightless nightingale, from the pine cage sing humanity’s song of freedom
It is very touching......It has nothing to do "magic chicken" :O) The song is perfect for this blog!
Another thing is that from "Finglish", I can tell the Farsi poem rhymes pretty well! I checked the last word of each verse....very interesting!
Thank you!!

by R2-D2 on Mon Feb 01, 2010 12:27 AM PSTYolanda, this is the song Morgh'e Sahar, with both Farsi pronunciation, and English translation:
morgh’e sahar - morning bird
morgh’e sahar, naale sar kon - morning bird, mourn
morgh’e sahar, naale sar kon - morning bird, mourn
daagh’e ma ra taaze tar kon - further renew my pain
z’aah shararbar, een ghafas raa
barshekan o, zeer o zebar kon
- with a sigh that rains fire,
break this cage and overturn it
bolbol’e par-baste, ze kaaj’e ghafas daraa
naghme’ye azadi no’e bashar saraa
-flightless nightingale, from the pine cage sing humanity’s song of freedom
va’z nafas arseye een khake tudeh ra,
por sharar kon
-from the breath of the masses
fill the open earth with fire (?)
zolm, zalem
jor-e sayyad.
-oppression, the oppressor
the hunter’s oppression
aasheeyan’am daade bar baad
- it has left my nest dwindling in the wind,
ey khoda, ey falak, ey tabee-at
shaam’e taareek’e maara, sahar kon
- god, universe, nature
make our dark evening into dawn
no-bahar ast

- it’s a new a spring
the flowers have bloomed
abr cheshmam

- the clouds in my eyes
are filled with dew
een ghafas, chon delam, tang o taar ast
- this cage, like my heart, is suffocated and dark
sho’le fekan, dar ghafas, ey aah aatasheen
- oh fiery sigh! start a flame in this cage,
dast tabee’at, gol’e omr’e mara macheen
- nature’s hand, don’t cut short this flower of my life
janeb aashegh negah ey taaze-gol az een -
look at my dear young flower
beeshtar kon! beeshtar kon! beeshtar kon! -

I have played both music videos and saved the Bam's live concert video. The guy is great at hitting the high notes, just amazing! His voice has a lot of power and emotion! I saw the words, peace and freedom from the 1st video, ruthless oppresion and magic chicken from the 2nd video. The music moved people to tears! Wow! What a moment! Iranians are not afraid of expressing themselves!

by yolanda on Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:14 PM PSTHi! R2-D2,
I have saved the song in the bottom, the pictures are great including one picture from the show trial, very powerful....I think between the 2nd and 3rd minute, I saw a stack of brandnew ballots. I believe those are the fake "re-counted" ballots printed by the IRI to replace the authentic ballots....it looks like those ballots have never been folded or handled.....they are too new to be the real ballots...I love these verses from the song translated by Google translator:
Mood iconoclast with the divine command
Clear morning in the heart of black
We will cry we cry
We believe in our Foundation
Hack infamous bloodthirsty executioner
I know the translation is not perfectly grammatical, but I pretty much understand the meaning and sentiment.
I have read that Mousavi and Karroubi are calling people to protest on Feb 11....but IRI is also showing its true color.....I read an article on Press TV, this brigadier general is bragging and threatening people at the same....he said that IRI is optimistic about the future than ever....he also warned against any green protests on Feb 11.
