-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... Tomada de Chiapas pelos zapatistas - 1994

Mirza jan I really don't know where you come up with this equalization of the Zapatista movement in Mexico with the general communist movement in the world. But me thinks you' might be stuck in the vortex of Cold War.

Zapatista's conception of political power is that they recognize not a single one of them and consider all existing political forms of power to be dysfunctional, criminal and ineffective. Hence their idea of building new relationships and structures as they have done in Chiapas in the past eighteen years.

In more than one sense Zapatistas defy ordinary status quo politics, they refuse to participate in electoral politics and any Zapatista member elected as a state official has to resign from EZLN.
It's interesting that even US State Dept. recognizes Zapatistas to be a genuine indigenous Mexican movement, but not our knee jerk Cold War anti-communist friend.
Zapatistas consider "Marxist" states (and basically every other form of state) as historical jokes. Sort of similar to your "understanding" of Mexican history, culture and politics; a joke. Cheers
And a happy new year like on other. New Year's Eve is really big in Zapatista communities. Viva Mexico, Que Viva!

Mirza jan, you must be confusing Zapatistas with some other people. Everything for Zapatistas is consultation and bottom up, democratic decision making. And that way of approaching organizing has enabled them to survive for 18 years now.

Marcos was laughing at Dinosaur communists "supporting" their uprising against NAFTA and the Mexican state 18 years ago, I think he still is.

The fact that EZLN has been in existence for 18 years now, and served as an inspiration and a vanguard of Battle of Seattle, and the Occupy Movement, not to mention Atenco and Oaxaca (pronounced Wa' Ha' Ka) speaks for itself.
A history of Mexican revolution and the Hacienda tradition of land ownership could be helpful.

Hooshang jan,
All the Communist promises have been red roses, but their actual face has been red blood.
All Communist systems have devolved into brutal dictatorships, with no exception.
So, don't be too glad of "our world falling apart", because this open society is your world too. Besides, the victor Communists have treated their own comrades worse than anyone else!

Yes, let's cheer for the Communists, and hope that they can destroy another nation, to build another marvelous torture-complex.
