I think being Persian and being American is no different than being Irish and being American, or being Jewish and being American, and so on and so forth. Many if not most Americans have some consciousness of some "old country" from which their ancestors originated or emigrated from. And that consciousness is not totally lost even after a few generations. Having a foot in each world is quite normal.
