ReportThis is called "Free enterprise", Capitalism at it's best, with or without chelokabab! FYI, most very sccessful Hi tech corporatins we see in US, have started by one successful CEO, selling his company to someone, and going on starting a new business along the same line, with a new "twist" to the old business. As we are all looking forward to a new society back in good old iroon, post IRI, where "free enterprise" would rule instead of stinky mullahs, we better get used to the ideas of prolification of business and change within and without the chelo-kabab industry!

ReportYes Roozbeh having worked in US business environment for 40 years, handling lots of business sales, I understand how it works inside and out and that is exactly the point of my blog . As I mentioned earlier, although "OPTIONAL" but COVENANT NOT TO COMPETE or non-competition clause is a very customary "fair business practice".

ReportI coud not agree with you more. Most of the items posted overlap each other too much. It's redundant and no added value as far as I can see. The old blogs and articles and some of the best discussion on the old version of Iranian.com are no longer available, I wonder why. Good to see you David E.

ReportDear David,
Nice to see you again. Anyone who wants the Ayatollahs gone the way you do has a special place in my heart.
I liked your analogy of the restaurant and I would like to add, this is not Iranian specific. It can happen in any country, especially, if the contract does not clearly indicate the old owner of the restaurant should not start a new one in the vicinity of the one he has just sold.
And I'm not sure if such terms and conditions can be legally included in an agreement in the world of the US free market.
Also, the former owner can always find ways of getting around such terms and conditions by simply investing in a similar business without technically owning it.
Wishing the best for all the true enemies of the Ayatollahs!

ReportI can't see any problem with JJ creating another Iranian site. I find the proliferation of the sites beneficial. I am however disappointed with the format of the both sites and can only hope for some real improvements in both. I simply don't enjoy eating in either restaurant at the moment and if it was not for the sake of meeting the old customers, I probably would not eat in either.
p.s. Anyone knows how we can edit our comments now?

ReportWe humans are comfortable in familiar zones and resistant to change. I I think in time most will get used to the new format. I like the fact that posts get their hierarchy based on readers views and votes and not by unknown favoritisms or criterias.

ReportI agree with you and having been involved in change management in different organizations can testify to that. I however believe that change does not always yield the intended results and may backfire too if not planned properly. I think IC is not as attractive and welcoming to new users as it used to be. Some of us who have been with the site are going to stick with it and wait for improvements but if today I had visited the IC for the first time I would have not added it to my favourites.

ReportIrooni.com Baazi!
David, I have been itching to write about this topic from a different angle, but thanks for doing so.
I really like JJ and I tremendously appreciate what he has done for our community. But to be honest with you I thought that he would be doing something different than what I saw, which on a good day, is Iranian.com Lite with a few bells and whistles.
Based on what I have seen on his site on occasional visits, there are no discussions or critical comments over there, just a few charts and graphs about if you like Gheimeh better than Ghormeh Sabzi or similar things. So I am not sure where he is going with his site.
Oh yes, not only he opened a similar chelo-kababi across the street, some of the disgruntled employees also moved over there with him!
And then there are those who eat their lunch over there and dinner over here!

ReportWell the point system was used by balatarin.com which is being used here too. I like that in addition to the articles the comments can also be liked.
As for the other sites I saw that jj also added a thumbs up for approval and thumbs down for disapproval. But then I got confused when I switched to the Farsi section. Over there the bilakh I suppose means disapproval but I was not sure what upside down bilakh means?!
