New Iranian.com Site Still Bothers Me!

Site views keep dropping. As of end of November it has dropped from over 100K to 52K. I just checked using: www.wolframalpha.com/widgets/view.jsp?id=1910b507e88a983ce6245c6a8ac53c09 and viewership has dropped to 42,000.  (see image below).

What bothers me is that my blogs last two days that were viewed by literally hundreds of viewers - get dropped off the main screen - below other blogs which have far fewer viewers or even comments or toops.

The format is resulting in a drop in SEO's but bottom line, if I take the time to write a blog, I want a decent fighting chance of getting a feature spot, and/or being read by even MORE readers.  I used to average over 1000 readers before the change. Now its steady but over 300. Something has changed.

If viewership is falling and bloggers can't get consistent (decent) placement ...then the community (our community) will suffer. Something needs to get done.

Meanwhile JJ's irooni is still below 2000 viewers, and the question I have is where else can we post our blogs?? Anyone know??

I am, ALSO, quite disappointed of this NEW site design!

I think this philosophy has changed..the site has a number similarities to facebook based on functionality and visual styling. And facebook is fine if you want to catch up with friends and family but IDC offered something more which has been lost in transformation...eg selected articles, interesting blogs staying live for debate to develop etc. Although may be the aim is for the IDC to become a social media platform..

I still drop in from time to time. But when I do, the same impression: lonely wolf of the desert.
And to think this was once a prolific site, aj, aj.

I only wonder...........what's the highest read ever? Let's say 25000.......make it 50000.......why not 100000?............a long way to go until it reaches 75000000...hurry up guys do something before Mullahs make it 120000000.....and I still wonder........

Content posted on IDC gets awesome SEO placement, and quickly at that. The drop in traffic is due to more than 60% of the old IDC content still being offline; specifically 2008 - 2012 content. I hope to have it up soon.

@AnonymousObserver the tweaks to the layout, due to be ready mid next month, will feature select content (read: quality) for longer periods of time.

Said-Jan: I know intentions are good, and I know there is a real effort being made to 'make' the site even better. But, 'khodemoonim', old IDC content doesn't explain the drop. And anyway, old content only has value to whatever extent it shows up on searches - but if its suddenly posted with no search history, then they won't show up on a key word search, and as a result not get clicked. NOT GOOD. And one more thought, after this blog featured 'highly' for a few hours or so, I can't even find it! So, much for 8 comments so far and 100+ views in a few hours. The whole point is - who, how is quality determined? Its not consistently toops! Its not consistently views! Its not hot comment strings! Its just not consistent. Doesn't make sense.

I appreciate your acknowledgment of my intentions. That said, some of your assessments are in my professional opinion, off.

Shocking as it may be, the majority of daily traffic to IDC came from old content that was indexed. This is not theory, it is fact based on data. As for your SEO assessment, with post 2008 content missing (for now), there is a huge loss of indexed content. Thus, there's been a significant drop of SEO traffic. Once the missing ~60% of content is back up, it will once again (in theory) get indexed and as a result send many more viewers to the site.

On the flip side, the old IDC had 30 to 40ish active contributors (and trending downward), and that # has now dipped to around 20 - 25 (albeit more posts are going up now). I recognize this and I am working to ameliorate the site for its contributors and vistors alike.

Change is hard and there are often unforeseen results. Some good, some bad, but as I have done in the past, with mixed results, I will continue to iterate and give it the best shot that I can. Obviously being in cahoots with members who care and share their feelings constructively, we can work on these changes together. My door is always open for recommendations and feedback, but repeated complaints born out of nostalgia, the desire for attention or just being a jerk, *meh* falls on deaf ears.

From my end, the vision is to transform what was a declining pioneer for social sharing among the Iranian diaspora, into a vibrant community that we can enjoy in a safe and friendly environment. We're clearly not there (yet) and sometimes one needs to take a step backward (or two, or three) before taking a giant leap forward.

(ps: your blog is not on the home page because it has a broken picture.)

I have posted 2 articles who have been viewed by quite a few, yet I can't find them!
By the way what is "TOOP, SEO, IDC" and the rest of these newly adopted acronyms!

There is no problem there, the first part. difficulty starts when I want to review my post on the general area; I can't see where my article is in the "general area". One article was NY Times' smog problem in Teheran, and the other was in regard to science, and can find neither one!

I stand corrected on JJ's iroon.com here is the data from Wolfram/Alpha : Site views: 43000, daily visitors: 31,000!! I did check a month ago using siteanalytics.com and I promise it was 2000 visitors for iroon.com!! So obviously something changed. I stand corrected. Sorry.

You're correct. case in point: this blog. It has zero "toops" and very few views (because you just posted it), yet it's situated above many other ones with many views and toops. The problem is just as you put it: the blogs don;t stay on long enough for readers to see them.

As far as other places to post, you can try blogspot or isn't there blogfa for Persian content? There are many other blogging site as well.
