Babak Iranian-American Aristocrat who came to the USA in 1974.

What's up with people in the Middle East burning themselves and committing suicide? Sounds like the Suicide Bomber mentality. Why not protest and stand up for your rights if that is what people want? The suicide thing is not understandable from a Western mindset that is only done by depressed and lonely individuals with Psychological Disorders. Real sympathy from Americans would only come if people stood up for their rights the way people here do. There is my 2 cents.

Isn't this what happened in Tunisia that started the riots there?

How do we know if this is a true story??????? It is not reported anywhere else, by any one else. Why is it the world media does nothing to help report on the lives and activities of those Iranians who want to be able to participate in Free and Fair elections? If this news is true, it is important and should be reported on. Is concealing the news of the daily lives of Iranians, the widespread unpopularity of the regime, while western governments try and negotiate behind the peoples backs with their oppressors really the best the western democracies and their media can do?

Where is the assumption that this was for political reasons coming from??
Even if the story is true and a man did burn himself, there could be a 101 reasons including mental illness.
To all those who think burning oneself will help lead Iran to democracy, I invite you to do it yourself!

LOL that is an appropriate comment for the chosen name. Yes self harm is a psychological problem, however burning oneself is a form of extreme protest. It won't help bring democracy, it will instigate rage against the authorities by society and the care they take of their own people, the rage has a catalytic effect in that it raises peoples awareness that collectively they reject the oppressive values of the corrupt authorities.

If the people haven't / don't feel sufficient rage to push them over the line after all that they have suffered since '79 then this man burned himself in vain, assuming again, that there was a political connection.
What irritates me to no end is how freely those of us living in the 'free world' advocate death and self destruction of those living in Iran, in the name of 'democracy'. Again, the last line of my last comment stands. Az khodetoon maayeh bezarid lotfan.
