This morning I logged into the new iranian.com and noticed our old friend Hajiagha is free! I also noticed many other blocked users are free again. I sensed as if the Evin prison has been broken into and the prisoners liberated!
Now as we all know Mr. Javid was a great promoter of the political prisoners in Iran and was so vocal about democracy and human rights by posting all kinds of contents related to these issues and he even littered the American National Parks last summer by writing "democracy" and stuff like that in Farsi with broken pieces of wood and what have you!
However, in the end when he lost control of the old i.com many of those he imprisoned are now free! Despite the fact that many of them were talented and long time contributers, just like our political prisoners in Iran.
I am sure Jahanshah will disgree with me and many of you do too and I hope you register your feelings one way or another to activate the robotic programs!
In the end not only Jahanshah ended up playing the role of the Evin jail keeper but all of us lost something of value. We lost the organized and meticulously detailed content organization of the old i.com which was achieved by YEARS and years of user input and customized to the needs of the community. The only thing that it was missing was "comment control" which Jahanshah promised but just like a dictator refused to implement, again all while boasting his freedom and democracy "claims".
That's what happens when you or I or people we know act like stubborn mules and think they're always right. Other than the comment control i.com could've been improved by adding "tabs" like it used to have for blogs, news, music, etc. by adding tabs for surveys, photos, albums or the new things we have here. Or the addition of like and dislike buttons.
I used to think that this new format for both sides may be good but now I think they are SUCKS TO CANADA! They are not for us. There is no "moving on". If anything we're moving to nothing. I hope I am wrong, I hope I am so wrong that we get the old i.com back. But I don't think we will. It's probably lost for ever.
Anyway, you may think I've woken up from the wrong side of the bed this morning but I think what I felt this morning and what I'm saying here is not far off from reality and how Mr. Javid is now perceived and where we've become. At the end of the day it's another example of Iranian bazi and how we couldn't even manage an online magazine. How we screwed up the cyberspace by creating an Online Supreme Leader! Oh well.

ReportI am just wondering why all those execution, drug addiction, prostitution under name of sigheh don't bother HajiAgha, but someone who is on social welfare in Canada bothers him? Now look at new deceitful technique, anyone who is opposed with stinky ruling mullahs in Iran has to be foreign agent. What a brillent thinking!!!. Fred was right this guy had to resign before to be kicked out of Canada and decently joine his people against tyrrany of bunch of the criminal rag heads. That is the decent way of living,

ReportThis just shows your misunderstanding of what democracy is. You can not say or do anything you like in a democracy. For example in no democratic country can you make hate speeches about a geoup of people or threaten people.
If you allow any insane people to say and do anything he likes then after some time you are going to have a country like Iran where people who do the most crimes are in power and people who do no crime are prisoners of thought.
And from the drawings and texts that Hajiagha published online here you could see his hate for women, Canadians and so on, you can see his hate again in his comment where he says "old iranian.com was like a 99 year old woman", if he wants to compare something to be outdated, it has of course to be a woman. Or when he says that Ebadi "is an old lady gone crazy that is in need of a husband" you can yet again see that he see Ebadi as inferior since she is a woman and needs to get a man to quiet her up.
Barring persons like Hajiagha is not like throwing someone in Evin, it is like asking some loud guy leaving a meeting room since he is disrupting the order by shouting obscenities. He can go anywhere else and continue shouting them, and his supportes can do the same but Iranian.com should not give him any platform if it does not want to lose sain people.
Esfand Aashena
ReportChoghok I don't know where you live (perhaps in Canada?! just kidding ;-) but here in America there is no limit to free speech and anyone can say anything, including hate speech and groups such as neo-Nazi, KKK and various anti Government militant groups have magazine, websites and rallys.
Now as far as Hajiagha you have to take him with a grain of salt. Don't take him literally, he loves Iran the way he knows how. He has fought in the war and was a journalist in Iran. Now he is here, has been here for several years but he doesn't get everything like you do.
Where else and who else can you get as unpolished and raw like Hajiagha? You hear so much about what you don't like but you don't have a live person to be an example. So let him be and let us have some frank discussiona and smile a bit.
Yes there will be times when he'll insult feminists and such and I may have an issue with that and we'll discuss it and you'll see it but for the most part, this is fun!
choghok – Your enemie's enemy is necessarily not a friend.
ReportEven in USA you are not allowed to say whatever, for example threaten people or tell other people to harrass and kill others.
Now I do not say that Hajiagha is doing that. But he and others like him do not contribute to any positive dialogue. Iranian.com can set up a poll to see how many people find his drawings funny or interesting.
Character assasination and being sexist does not make any sane people laugh.
Esfand Aashena
ReportJust this past election cycle in America, two famous nutjobs, one Ted Nuggent and another one I can't remember now threatned and encouraged people to pick up guns and kill Obama! Secret Service interviewed them and then let them go.
In another example, US Govt itself killed an American citizen in Yemen with a drone because he was suspected of being a terrorist. No trial or anything.
These are not what we're talking about here. I understad Hajiahga is very harsh and controversial and especially here he says all the things some people don't like to hear, many because they think they crap don't stink! They are too chic and goody two shoe!
Hajiagha and people from Shahs of Sunset are two sides of the same coin. They each think the other person represents the Iranians and each have a point!
Hajiagha is a good person to just sit back and see how far things can go! It's a lively debate and especially now that not much is going on and we're starting a new website, we can use some shock therapy and raw comedy! Just look at some who try to engage him in a political debate! How desparate or off does one have to be?! Don't you get it?!
choghok – Your enemie's enemy is necessarily not a friend.
ReportDo not want to bring this to maraton debate but 2 things.
1. The secret service is not allowed to work on American soil so CIA would be prosecuted if they would have interrogate this guy.
2. If threatening and asking people to harrass or kill is not a crime then why would they be answering questions.
3. Nobody care how "good" a person really is if he or she can not debate with no logic. With extremism and no logic you cannot come to any point.
Esfand Aashena
ReportThe answer to the questioning was that he was excercising his first amendment rights, which is right to free speech. Again that's not our issue and problem here, so we can discuss it when and if it happens and I can already say that I'll always condemn it.
Now as far as a "good" person, we're talking about being raw and funny. You know all those comedians who make fun of politicians and famous people, do the same thing. ALL those politicians or famous people have logic and believe in what they say. The comedians say the SAME thing they say (which is supposed to be logical) only in a different tone and that makes it funny!
You can 'try' to debate and discuss any subject with someone who is not taking it seriously for eternity and that person will talk to you too! Endlessly! The only thing it does is to make you mad and the rest of us who are watching = entertained!

ReportIn all seriousness if Iranian Intellectuals don't learn this one basic definition and why, they won't even know where to start to fix their issues, and will create worse based on their lack of wisdom and abundance of ignorance.
Once Iranians have enough Intellectuals leading the people, as opposed to Anti-Intellectuals misleading them, then there will be a basis for real hope for Iranians and not until then. At this stage in Irans development anyone who has helped create true intellectuals has helped Iran and her people anyone who did not and has not helped create true Intellectuals is not of true value to iranians.

Please since you are the owner of the old and new i.com please take note that we had a good web magazine and lost it. It was customized for us, please bring back those functionalities. This website won't work this way if you have a large active readers and contributors.
Lastly, I'd like to please ask you to look into Azadeh Azad's password and email situation. I see that she once registered but looks like she's not able to log in. thanks

ReportIt's been only 4 days since the new format has been deployed. It generally takes a few "releases" before you get the desired look and functionality.
But as a general rule whenever you change a user-facing interface you will get a lot of complains the least of which is "I hate change!" That's why before you implement a change of this nature you bring in the "super users" into a development session and get their input. That way you get most of the problems resolved beforehand and you also will have a group of vocal advocates that speak positively about the change.
Obviously the re-design was done in the absence of the user input and was done mainly to bring in new functionality.
Esfand Aashena
ReportFaramarz jaan it's not about user-interface or releases. It's about the "organization of content". Right now this new design is not popular as you or I or Mr. Amin would like. Imagine the day, or even today, when you have thousands of users and everyone wants to post something. You can't catch up with everything. Why should it be that way?
Would you agree with me that the "organization" of the old i.com was based on years or tuning and fine tuning everything? For example, we used to have 5 or 7 blogs "featured", then it went to more than a dozen. We didn't have "recent comments" or "Hot Today" or "tabs" but all were added because the need was there.
More importantly when you clicked on "more" you'd see more, now you can't see shet! I'm trying to be honest here. I thought this would be good and said so at the beginning. But now I see so much wrong with this.
We didn't need wholesale change, just a little tweaking.
Faramarz
ReportEsfand Jaan, the layout of the page is very similar to Huff Post with three columns and enough information about each item that allows you to learn about the blog without opening it. That takes real estate.
Where it lacks is that under each blog in Huff Post there is a list of similar material which functions as a tab. For example, Hajiagha's multiple picture posting can be managed with a single post and the rest under that one post.
All of this is easily accomplished by adding the functionality and hands-on admin/editor's involvement 7x24.
Esfand Aashena
ReportFaramarz jaan first of all I see 3 columns on Huff Post and the existence of "Tabs". But that's not the point. The old i.com design was "custom made" for us.
I like the elimination of Editor or maybe we can have a part time Editor or something, what we don't need is this "fast paced" mumbo jumbo!
Imagine for example, in the "articles" section of the old i.com, the most voted or viewed or whatever "algorithm" punches out is "featured". We could still keep the Blog section (otherwise known as the belog section ;-) and the News Section and the other tabs as they were before.
All good things come to an end and I suppose nothing I or anyone else can say, will bring back the old i.com. It's just a shame or as we say in Farsi "afsoos"!
Faramarz
ReportEsfand Jaan,
I don't mean to turn this into an application development discussion or play ignorant to the shortcomings of the new design. But I understand why it turned out the way it did.
I have already mentioned the lack of user input. Second, it was probably rushed into production without much "soaking." Third, when we migrated from the old to the new, most likely the technology platform (web design software) was changed and in all likelihood the functionality is what came out of the box with minimal customization.
So the best path forward is to provide the input and ask for improvements and hopefully it will not take 5-7 years.
Esfand Aashena
ReportWell the best input I can provide is to use all the organizational structure of the old i.com. Bring back, most viewed, most discussed, hot today, recent comments, various tabs and so on. They just have to remember they're supposed to be "adding" stuff not overhauling everything.
Bring the sexy back!
