Iran 5 - Lebanon 0

Iran beat Lebanon 5-0 today in Tehran to revenge its loss in Beirut a few months ago. This was an important match for Iran's national team and its coach who had come under a lot of criticism lately. The match was a group qualifier for Asian Cup 2015 in Australia. Nekounam scored three goals and Ghoochannejad scored the other two goals. Ashkan Dejagah was Iran's best player.

There is no love lost between Iran and Lebanon!

The Iranian fans today showed their true feelings towards the Lebanese players by whistling through their national anthem and whenever the Lebanese players fouled or faked injuries.

Iran's coach Carlos Quiroz had come under tremendous pressure lately by local press and Iranian coaches for using foreign-based, mixed-race (2-Rageh) Iranian players. But the great performance by Ashkan Dejagah and Reza Ghoochaninejad should silence the critics for the time being.

Iran's next match is in March against Kuwait. Iran's new goalkeeper Daniel Davari will debut for the national team. He is German-Iranian from a Polish mother.

It looks as if Iranians in diaspora are rescuing Iranian football!
