February 28, 2013, Washington D.C. – Representatives Henry Waxman (D-33rd/CA) and Peter Roskam (R-6th/IL) plan on introducing a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. Congress recognizing the Iranian New Year (Nowruz) and acknowledging that the Cyrus Cylinder has, over the centuries, come to symbolize one of mankind’s first documents on human rights.
On loan from the British Museum, the cylinder will be on display starting March 9th at the Smithsonian Institution’s Arthur M.Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C., traveling afterwards to Houston, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
In addition to commemorating the tour of the cylinder throughout the U.S., the resolution recognizes the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz, acknowledges the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and religious tolerance, and recognizes the chasm that exists between the values embodied in the cylinder and the current practices of the government of Iran.
PAAIA has urged the introduction of the Nowruz and Cyrus Cylinder resolution as part of its broader efforts to celebrate and foster greater understanding of Iranian culture, and to project an accurate and positive image of the Iranian American community. The resolution will mark the first time that members of Congress have introduced a measure recognizing the achievements of Cyrus the Great and his impact on civilization. Previously, PAAIA worked with Congressman Michael Honda (D-17th/CA) to help draft and build bipartisan support for legislation in recognition of Nowruz, which passed both chambers of Congress in March 2010.

ReportI was wondering why this kind of comment, the I saw your ID, which starts with "seyed" which means Arab zadeh, which in actuality means against Iranian, and pro Arabs.Norooz has been part of our culture way before Islamic Murderers invaded our country, and will remain an important part of our culture long after we kiked Islam out of our lives, and our country. ( so far we have kiked it out of our hearts, thans to Islamic Rapist Rejime).

ReportWhat's wrong with lifting the sanctions on Iran which only hurt the people rather than the regime? They even mentioned that what the Cyrus cylinder stood for has nothing to do with the islamist leache regime.
All Iranians and Persians should sign this.

ReportUsing nowruz as a cover is wrong. PAAIA has to say they are pro-Mullahs, not using "Eid nowruz.

ReportYou have been trying to get Congress acknowledge Nowruz for 30 years every year, and they can't get it up! You guys can't do this, nor can you ward off sanctions or anything else. What are you guys good at? Breathing a sigh of relief that you are Persians?

ReportIsn't the guy who owns PAAIA the same dude who wants/wanted to be the next president of the Islamists' hellhole? Does he have any idea what it means to be in bed with the Islamists in Tehran?

ReportThis is their tactic. they give human face to their lobby first, then ask for lifting sanctions and better relations with Mullahs. PAAIA, what do you say about Vali Nasr? Now, PAAIA is using Nowruz. No wonder Iraj Khan aka Trita thanks this post. Trita, do you want to see the email to Roy Coffee mentioning this, "giving human face to our lobby"? BTW, Trita, you don't like PAAIA? They are your Competitor.
