Makoto Shinkai's Children Who Chase Lost Voices (2011) is a wonderful anime, though it takes a very long time - almost full forty minutes - to get off the ground. Yet it is worth the wait, for then it takes you on a journey to a faraway wonderland rich in magic, color and detail almost akin to those created by Hayao Miyazaki. The story is not great, but passes comparing to many other recent anime films. But then messy story has always been a downside to much good anime. I think after Miyazaki it is Shinkai who is persistently trying to push anime to both its aesthetic and narrative limits. I loved this one as I did most of the rest of his work, but I believe that his masterpiece still remains 5 Centimeters per Second. Don't miss any of them.

ReportYes. There are two versions, as far as I remember. One is classic and the other is more recent. Too much gore in it, but that's mainstream anime!

ReportAll are great, but in different ways. For instance, Ghost is cyberpunk, and Grave is psychological. Shinkai does not do that. He is into romance and magic, like Miyazaki.

ReportSure. Sharing passion is a great passion of mine! As a matter of fact, it's not a clip, it's just a picture, but you'll certainly find a relevant clip by just searching.
