Blogger and Aid Worker Still Held in Iran

As supporters of the Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi celebrate her release from Evin prison in Tehran, campaigns to free two other, less high-profile prisoners continue online. Last month, when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a letter to Tehran’s chief prosecutor asking that Ms. Saberi, who was charged with spying for the United States, be given an opportunity to present a full defense, he also requested the same treatment for Hossein Derakhshan, an Iranian-Canadian blogger who was arrested last November and charged with spying for Israel. As The Times of London reported in November, Mr. Derakhshan, so influential that he was “nicknamed the Blogfather for spawning Iran’s spectacular blogging revolution,” was arrested just weeks after returned to Iran after living for eight years in Canada and Britain
