dear users and readers, lovers and loathers:
there is a new book called books not bombs (with a foreword by the author of kite runner) and I think this concept of books not bombs can apply to the war zone here at iranian.com.
i have discovered the new book by orhan pamuk and it is beautiful. the setting is istanbul and the very first page begins with a couple making love. I’m nearly on page 100 and I would love for some of the men here, especially the Freds and Bijans and Samsams to read this book. It’s a request and I don’t really expect it to be respected, but I think there is a chance. Iranians love stories, don’t we. I invite all of you to buy/borrow and read this book. Let’s read it together, please.
I want to hear what some of these tough guys think of it. Fiction and prose are powerful and I am hoping that they will help me connect to these people I can’t bear to read comments and blogs from. I want to see what they make of the main character Kemal and his dilemmas. Of course, I invite my mullah IRI communist friends to read this book as well. Let’s see if this experiment has the potential I feel it might.
