Iran sets up Rumi studies center

TEHRAN — A center to do research on Persian mystic and poet Molana Jalal ad-Din Rumi has recently been established in Tehran.

The center has been founded by the Institute of Wisdom and Philosophy of Iran (IWPI), the Persian service of the Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday.

“We are consulting on selecting a director for the center,” IWPI director Gholamreza Avani said.

The Rumi Studies Center has been assigned the task of doing research on mystic literature and religious art as well, he stated.

“The center is currently working on a book that should make valuable contributions to society towards a proper understanding of Rumi and add to scientific knowledge about him,” he added.

The 800th birth anniversary of Rumi was celebrated by UNESCO in September 2007.

Molana Jalal ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273) left Masnavi-ye Manavi, Divan of Shams, and Fihi ma fih.
