GVF — The father of Green Movement leader Mir Hossein Mousavi has passed away at the age of 103.
Just hours ago, Mir Esmail Mousavi, father of former prime minister and current opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi died at his home in Tehran. He was 103.
Following the disappearance and reported house arrest of the opposition leader and his wife on 14 February, Mousavi’s father had become increasingly concerned due the fact that his son was no longer paying regular visits to his ailing father. “He is on a trip,” was the response he heard, every time he asked about the reason for his son’s absence.
Alas, Mir Hossein Mousavi, undoubtedly one of the most admired public figures in Iran was barred from being at his dying father’s side. What remains to be seen is whether Khamenei’s regime will allow the 70-year-old to mourn the loss of his father in a dignified manner or not.
It should be noted that prior to the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Ali Khamenei, who had been pursued by the Shah’s regime, was offered sanctuary in the house of Mousavi’s father which became his sanctuary for a while; the same house at which Mir Esmail Mousavi died today.
