Rhino Season ( aka : Falseh Kargadan)- Official Trailer :
Plot:
A haunting love story that spans three decades, Rhino Season is based on the tragic story of a Kurdish poet and family friend of Ghobadi’s who was unjustly incarcerated during Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The victim of a personal vendetta, Sahel (Behrouz Vossoughi) is thrown into prison along with his devoted wife Mina (Monica Bellucci). Inexplicably released after serving a ten-year sentence, Mina is informed by the authorities that Sahel is dead. Heartbroken, she and her two children leave Iran for Istanbul — unknowingly leaving behind her very-much-alive husband, who is forced to stay in prison for another twenty years. Finally released, Sahel sets out to find his wife, the memory of whom was the only thing that had sustained him throughout his agonizing ordeal. But after clinging to an intangible vision for so many years, what is the reality that awaits him now?

Bahman Ghobadi’s « Rhinos Season » opens at the Toronto Film Fesitval
Independant Iranian-Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi’s newest film, starring cult Iranian icon Behrouz Vossoughi, Monica Bellucci, and Yilmaz Erdogan, is set for launch on September 12th, 2012, as part of Toronto Film Festival’s ‘Special Presentations’.
Shot in Istanbul over the last year, his new feature RHINO SEASON marks the next big step in a devotion to cinema which has seen him leave Iran following the local controversy around his last film, NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT PERSIAN CATS.
Based on true events, RHINO SEASON is the story of Kurdish-Iranian poet Sahel (Behrouz Vossoughi) and Mina (Monica Bellucci)- a married couple unjustly incarcerated during Iran’s Islamic Revolution. Inexplicably released after serving a ten-year sentence, Mina is informed by the authorities that Sahel is dead. Heartbroken, she leaves Iran for Istanbul — unknowingly leaving behind her very-much-alive husband, who is forced to stay in prison for another twenty years. Finally released, Sahel sets out to find his wife, the memory of whom was the only thing that had sustained him throughout his agonizing ordeal. But after clinging to an intangible vision for so many years, what is the reality that awaits him now?
Every year, Toronto International Film Festival is host to the most prominent filmmakers in the world. This year’s edition will be held from September 6th to 16th. To mention just a few, this year RHINO SEASON will have the honour of being featured among latest works of directors such as Jane Campion, Steven Soderbergh, Michael Haneke, Bernardo Bertollucci, Robert Redford, and many more cinema virtuosi.
The film is then planned for release in Turkey this autumn, thereafter being released internationally by iconic world sales Wild Bunch.
