Reports of Qorban Mohammadpour’s newest film continue to roll out, and The Devil’s Daughter should be entering production soon. The Devil’s Daughter is Mohammadpour’s follow-up to Salaam Mumbai, a romantic drama released in 2016 about an Iranian exchange student falling in love with an Indian classmate struggling with depression. The film was a national box office hit in Iran.
Following Majid Majidi’s film Beyond the Clouds being slotted for an India-wide release in March, Mohammadpour is set to continue what India expects as a budding trend of artistic collaboration between the two nations.
For now, though, we do know that Jackie Shroff has at least been selected for a brief cameo. The veteran Indian actor has performed in over 220 films throughout the region, and in multiple languages: “This will be the 12th language I’ve spoken on screen. I have worked in 11 languages so far, and this is an exciting addition. I play a cameo in the film, but I can’t reveal much right now.”
While The Devil’s Daughter will feature both Iranian and Indian performers, Mohammadpour confirmed last year that the lead would be played by an Indian actress. Full casting for the film has been completed and should be revealed soon, according to Financial Tribune.
