These diaries were written during February-August 2003, the early months of my assignment as Gender and Media Specialist with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in Kabul. They are a record of my professional activities, as well as observations about life in Kabul and reflections on events in the region, especially the invasion of Iraq which began on 20 March 2003. Afghanistan and the world have changed a lot since then, but what has remained the same is the humanity of the people of Afghanistan.
