Death
of Yazdgerd, will
open at Ashbey Stage Theater in Berkeley, northern California,
this week (August 27-September
18). Bahram Beyzaie's famous play (also made into a film) "is
a poetic, political and historic work, hailed as a masterpiece
of
modern Iranian
dramatic writing." This is the second time a Beyzaie play
is being brought on stage by Darvag,
the oldest Iranian-American theater company. Beyzaie's The
Eighth Voyage of Sinbad was staged in 1999.
I took these pictures were taken during the
first run-through, when the actors performed the entire
play (translated
from Persian into English by Manuchehr Anvar) for the first time
without reading from the text. The actors are Ali
Dadgar,
D. Anthony
Harper,
Richard Louis James,
Nicholas A. Olivero,
Sara
Razavi and Bella Warda. Directed by Evren
Odcikin.
