* Biggest threat to U.S.: Blacks and Hispanics

I am an African-American male of mixed descent living in Atlanta, Gorgia. The biggest problem that faces Arabs is not Saddam or Bin Laden, but their inability to unite in at least a militaristic and ethnic manner.

The United States has jumped in between a family fight and the family has openly invited them. I thought that Iraq would have fought harder but everyone was wrong. Arabs have even been bought off to allow the Anglo-Saxons use their land for launching pads. The petty ethnic differences that divide them are what will ultimately be the downfall of their prowess.

The United States is working on borrowed time due to internal pressures from its own growing minority population. Nevertheless, what makes western powers stronger than Arabs and to a lesser extend Africans is their lack of understanding of who the men behind western powers are and what they really think about Arabs.

Blacks and Hispanics pose the biggest threat to Western power not Bin Laden. Why, because their causes are unified. The days of selling out your brother to the devil for 30 pieces of silver must come to an end.

* All bull

It's so sad to think about America az a "DELSOOZ" country who just decided all of a sudden to attack Iraq just because it felt sorry for the walfare of its people living under Saddam's rule. Sorry but that's bull.

If America is really concerned then why doesn't it come forward to save the Iranian people of the government they are living under?

* No rights: Children of Iranian women

Did you know that we, the females of Iran, are not afforded the same legal rights as Iranians men when it comes to passing our nationality to our children? Iranian men who marry foriengers are able to pass their nationality not only to their children, but also to the foreign women that they have married.

Doesn't it strike you as being odd that there are foreigners that do not have a drop of Persian blood in their bodies that are given more rights under Iran's laws than the children of Iranian women who happen to be married to foreigner men. These half-Iranian children whose DNA is 50% Persian have NO RIGHTS. They are regarded as oddities, as garbage, as trash by IRI authorities!

Does it make sense that a Chinese, Canadian, French, or Filipino woman is given a higher legal status in the Islamic Republic of Iran than children of Iranian women? Does this sound right, fair, or just? The answer is not only "NO", but "HELL NO".

* Iranians: Oscar, Pulitzer

Dear Mr. Ashtiani,

In a letter titled "Pulitzer Prize?" you've written no Iranian movie has ever been nominated for an Oscar.

Majid Majidi's "Children of Heaven" was nominated as one of the 5 foreign-language movies in the 1999 Oscars. The eventual winner was Italy's "Life is Beautiful." There are plenty of other sites that mention that feat. I appreciate you clarify the accuracy of your reportings. ;)

Oh, and by the way, the late Kaveh Golestan did win the Pulitzer.

Needless to say, numerous other sites will cite the above as well. :) (See Ashtiani's reply below)

* Golestan and the Pulitzer

In reply to [Iranians: Oscar, Pulitzer],

I stand corrected on one count. And very delighted that one of my favorite movies was indeed "nominated" and not just "submitted."

However, I still hold my position that late Kaveh Golestan did not win a Pulitzer Prize either in photography or reporting. BBC clearly is misguided and I appreciate that you do not just rely on what BBC says.

You may recall that they reported in November 1979 that Iranian have seen picture of Imam Khomeini on the surface of the moon; and that was way exagerated!! It wasn't his picture! I did contact BBC for their inaccurate reporting.

Every article that refers to Kaveh you will see is repeating the same line. The way news spread is by syndication and once someone reports something in error it just snowballs no matter if it's picked up by BBC or any other agency. Kaveh did not win a Pulitzer.

I thank you for your respond and correction you made on the first item.

* No religion? How about Bahai faith?

I sympathize with your disdain for religion [Save it, Jesus!]. After all they have compromised their integrety with wanting wealth and political influence. So they resort to "spinning" which you are wise to.

I encourage you to look more closely at the Bahai Faith and see if it wouldn't be something your wonderful country wouldn't benefit from.

I, as one who has come to love Iran because of its connection to the origin of my faith, hope you continue your thoughts of fairness and equity toward the suppressed. You seem to me much more magnanimous than the Mullas, Priests, and Rabbis of the world.

* Americans, not hyphenated

Perhaps when we all think of ourselves as Americans, not hyphenated-Americans, we can all work together for the good of the country not just our own group.

* Islamic culture is morally bankrupt

The essay written by Iqbal Latif is just worthless and is simply portraying Islam as a peaceful and humanitarian ideology [The myth of hatred is dead]. He even goes further to suggest that a brutal sadistic despot like Omar (the ominous) was a caring pastor!!

What kind of freedom or in that matter human values are respected by Islam?, I ask you Mr. Latif. Have you read the Quran or do you know of Islamic History??!!! What kind of a humanitarian system is this that its holly book commands to kill the nonbelievers and subjugate Jews and Christians and impose on them religious taxes??!!

Read the chapter nine of Quran, surah Al-Tubah, in fact the whole 128 verses is mere invitation to violence and murder. Read surah Al-Nisae or the women, these faceless objects in Islamic societies, I have never seen anything more degrading to women than the contents of this Surah. Is this democratic humanitarian values?

Answer Mr. Latif. Please explain what part of Islamic system or whatever you call Islam as a whole endorses DEMOCRACY??!! This ideology is mere tyrannical from the root. What kind of a sick mentality should be behind this system to allow attacking others and either killing them or converting them to Islam?

Please read the history of Arabo-Muslim atrocities in Iran, Egypt, Indian subcontinent and North Africa. Muslims were feeding the whole market of slave trading for centuries; they were the greatest slave traders of all times. Even Saudi Arabia abolished slavery in 1960th. There is not a single passage in Islamic texts to condemn slavery, yet there are numerous verses to endorse it. The treatment of non Muslims and even Muslims are hideous and barbaric. Can you deny the Sharia law commanded by the Prophet and Quran and other Islamic sources??

What kind of human values do you find in Sharia law?? What part of Islamic history was anything slightly resembling democracy?! Please advise us Mr. Latif. Where is this real Islam that you people shout out everyday and has never produced any decent results so far?? The Islamic culture is morally bankrupt and collapsing. And for you Mr. Latif, please do not write anymore!!

* Don't pat yourself on the back

I received an email making Iran sound like the Jewish people's Zion. No, Iran is not the Jewish people's paradise. The email says that many years ago the Shah of Iran freed the Jewish people from slavery in Babylon (now Iraq). Is freedom from slavery a gift? Freedom from slavery is a God given right. Please don't pat yourself on the back.

You refer to Iran's 3,000-year-old history. What has Iran done today? What did the Shahs ever do for humanity? You have an inferiority complex and you stand behind the shadow of a monarch because you are insecure.

How many people beat you up during the 444 days Americans were held hostage? You pay respect to Mohammed Khatami. What are you? Who are you? People should call you an Ayatollah who is drunk wishing he was Rostam in the Shahnameh.

3,000 years of history and all you have to show for it is poetry and an abacus. Reza Khan is burning in hell for siding with the Nazis. And may God almighty have mercy on your soul because you are what Americans call a "stupid sand nigger".

* People deserve the government they have

We need this type of eye-opening, realistic letter more and more for those Iranians who called a war criminal like George W. Bush "imam-e zaman". [Imam Bush]

As an old saying goes: People deserve the government they have!

* Fascinating story

What a fascinating story and such a thoroughly well-researched piece of work by Darius Kadivar [Winds of war].

I greatly enjoyed reading his article and would hope to see more of Darius's beautifully composed and presented cinematographic articles on this site.

* Persian teacher: South London

I am trying to learn Farsi, as I am making a trip to Iran in the Autumn (I was brought up there) and though I am valiantly listening to the tapes and doing the exercises, the chance to speak to someone who knows Farsi would be fantastic.  I live in South London.  Do you know of anyone who may be suitable?
