October 24, 2003 * Las Vegas and Oxford in one I'm all for Iran this and that, but it has to be plausible [Imagine]. Sweden and Denmark do not have all the stuff listed in your work of fantasy. And you're big on subsidies - subsidies for carpets, subsidies for "fledgling industries", subsidies for irrigation (which means waste: you must charge dollars for water, Iran's vital asset). Basically, you say, spend every dime and petrodollar so people can have a smile on their face. No material or spiritual poverty: Iran turned Las Vegas and Oxford in one. Every family with a baagh: they're already gone, have you been back recently? They are uprooted, gone and wiped off because the new real estate Haji Bazaari classes worship nothing but money and chelo khoresh. Have you been to Shemiran or Farmanieh recently: it's enough to make you weep with rage and despair. Have you seen what they are building around Tehran, around the Caspian, have you seen the graffitti your nation of poets has etched on the historic buildings of Isfahan? Iranians hate all that is natural and old: they love all that glitters. Ooh, and those subsidies: it looks like a tax-and-spend manifesto to make my blood boil. Strangely, I enjoyed reading the item. * What peace does Islam preach? As I read your piece [Imagine], I could not help but think of two other similar speeches of recent memory: The Martin Luther King "I have a Dream" speech and Rodney King "Why can't we just get along?" speech. Unfortunately, in Islam, the doctrine does not allow people to get along. It is based on brute force in order to push the Islamic ideology down people's throats. I will give you a perfect example: In 700 AD, when that cult of nomadic killers reached "Iran Zamin" on horse and camel, what did those disgusting nomads say to my forefathers as their necks lay idle over a sharp sword? Do you know? If not I will refresh your memory: "If you do not renounce your religion and beliefs system with a 'La Ila-ha Il-Allah', we will sever your neck." Now, please tell me what peace does Islam preach? I want you to provide me, no I am sorry, provide the world with an example? (Reply below) * Christianity's equally bloody track record I hear you [What peace...?] and I agree but I humbly add that with all the blood shed in Islam's history it is easy to forget how much the faith was also spread by the sufis and their "miracles" and faith healing, and the emphasis of Islam on good works and tithing and helping the poor. Even in the Sunni Caliphate itself, the Ottoman sultan had a persian sufi advisor at his side despite the heresy. Consider Rumi and Al Ghazali. And anyway Christianity has an equally bloody track record I'm afraid, although it seems to havefound a new emphasis on forgiveness vs old testament eye for eye and tooth for tooth. There is actually evidence of christian sufi orders and communication between moslem mystics and christian ones like St Francis in those times despite the propoganda. Jews and Christians actually prospered under enlightened rules like Suleiman the Magnificent. Anyway, the important thing is dialogue. Thanks for taking the time to write to me about my article [Imagine]. I may sound naive but the only way we can change and get past all the hatred and anger is to keep the child in each of us alive... And one thing only is for certain in this life which is change, nothing ever stays the same forever, thank God... * How easy it is This article was so wonderful [Imagine]. It touched my heart, and brought tears to my eyes. What is so unbelieveably hard to believe is that how easy it is to accompolish it all; if we were all a little less greedy, a little more forgiving, and a huge company would accept 450% profit instead of 500%, and the ones in power were happy to accumulate wealth for the next 1000 years instead of 10,000 ! I guess that is hard to imagine ! * Rogue punishment In response to "Cyrus lies dead": I remenber one Western diplomat said some time ago that the reason why the West is not more helpful to Iran in fighting drug is to punish them for being a rogue state. * Great eye Dariush Radpour has a great eye for seeing things! [Free style] * Devilishly true Really enjoyed "Perfection" by Parissa Sohie-one of the best articles I have come across on Iranian.com. The English is not overworked, her personality comes through, it is really funny and her point is devilishly true. I am going to check out her other articles. Good luck with that thesis Parissa. * Chickens don't fly This is an answer to all proud and brain-washed Jonathans of the world.
[New
American Revolution] Maybe, once in a while, as standing next to a bar, in the wait for another Vodka shot (by the way, it's a communist drink, may be you should try ginger ale), you could read some useful books about the American constitution itself and realize that what you are living in is in direct contradiction of what the founding fathers intended to accomplish. I am often bewildered what "freedom" really means to some individuals. Do you really think that the French, Italians, Spanish, Japanese, and citizens of many other countries which you may not have heard of are in chains? What you call liberalism and leftist mentality is a humane, humble, and sympathetic way to look at the world and its inhabitants. You mistake
being anti-war for being unpatriotic, and you definitely have a narcissistic
way of feeling like a super-hero. So you are sitting at the bar, drunk
and lonesome, in dreams of saving the world with your weapons. There
are many who think like you. Before another hallucination of a bald
eagle flying freely, pick up the phone and call the nearest AA. * If Israel attacks Iran Following the visit to Tehran by Jack Straw, Joschka Fischer and Dominique de Villepin, and the subsequent nuclear programme deal, the likelihood of bullies like the USA and Israel attacking Iran's nuclear sites has been reduced. [See poll] Having said that, the USA run by a bunch of cowboys, the so called neo-conservatives, who, with their deeds and actions, have brought the USA to disrepute, are capable of doing anything. The same applies to the Sharon government or any Israeli government that are always willing to launch operations on behalf of the USA. With access to Turkish military bases, Israel now has easier access to Iranian airspace. If Israel were to launch an attack against Iranian nuclear and missile installations in the light of its perceived strategic interests or those of the USA, it would raise the level of enmity between the two countries from the governmental to the national level. Israel would suffer great hardship and difficulties as a result of such action. It may be that a severe blow against Iran's nuclear sites or missile bases would quench the vengeful thirst of the Israeli people for a few days, but it would also lay the foundations for a long hostility and enmity between the nations, with the only ultimate winners being the extremists of the two countries. * Trait of Iranian men (boys) Your Article "Dar jostojooye eshgh" by Namdar Nasser is just another example of lack of communication, a trait that Iranian men have mastered well. It's hard to understand why a guy who supposedly would rather die if he couldn't get the girl, would not even bother to find out why the girl wouldn't call him back or what was causing the girl to give him the cold shoulder. Either she didn't like him the way he did or she had some other issues, but in any case, he should get over it since it's not like they had any real relationship going on beyond the lust and physical attraction. Please, boys, let's get real. * Cheh looss! What a "looss" and "binamak" story! [Dar jostojooye eshgh] That's what happens when you look for love in the belly button of a belly dancer! My God, what has happened to "Eshq", the most beautiful and refined human emotion, in the modern world? What has happened to the love so beautifully and delicately put into heavenly poems of Hafez and Mowlana and Attar? The delightful love stories of Shirin and Farhad,
Sheykh-e San'an and "dokhtar-e tarsa", Yousef and Zoleykha,
Khosrow and Shirin, Leyli and Majnoon, etc. etc. ? Attar says: * Why is it OK? Dear Mr. Dewhurst, A group of citizens who are among the most educated, hardest
working and the most trouble free immigrants in
the United States? And where does that comment come
from? I am unaware of a popular belief or a stereotype about
Iranian cab drivers telling you a fare and then changing
it on you! Though not
a cab driver, I am still shocked and disappointed with
your comment. For a man in your position, this shows bad
judgment, to say the least! I liked mother Theresa but let?s be honest and |
