Afghan President Hamid Karzai talks with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on the
sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization Summit in Istanbul, October 14,
2002. The ten-member Muslim group includes member states, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan,
Iran, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran,
Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of sustainable socioeconomic development of the
