Head priest Jamshed Bhesadia offers prayers at a
Parsi fire temple in Bombay on the Parsi New Year, August 21, 2003.
Followers of the Persian prophet Zarathustra, the Parsi community,
arrived in western India 1,200 years ago after they fled Persia
(modern-day Iran) following persecution from Arab conquerors. The
Parsis are often referred to as the 'Dying Race' because of their
dwindling population, which community heads say is presently about
0.02 percent of India's 1 billion people. (Sherwin Crasto/Reuters)
