New York Business: Steven M. Kamali's parents, Iranian Jews who had immigrated to Long Island, were devastated when their eldest child quit Indiana University for a career in nightlife. Their disappointment subsided a few months later, when Mr. Kamali made $10,000 brokering a real estate deal for a bar in the Flatiron district. In the three years since then, he has become the go-to man for those trying to open nightclubs, restaurants and bars in New York City.
