Iranian of the day

May 18, 2006

I want to nominate my buddy, Arash Shokouh, for Iranian of the day.
Arash was part of an esteemed group of panelist at Cisco a few weeks ago.
The other panelist consisted of President Bush, Governer Schwarzenegger,
and Cisco CEO John Chambers. -- Sent by Shobeir Shobeiri

The Spartan Daily: With his family in the audience of a crowded room,
and with dozens of news cameras fixed on him, San Jose State
University student Arash Shokouh (left) sat on a panel with President
George W. Bush and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The computer
engineering student sat with the two government leaders, along with the
CEO of Cisco Systems Inc., John Chambers, and two other small-business
leaders, to discuss how the United States can be more competitive in the
world in terms of math and science education.

While Shokouh said he was honored to be sitting beside the leader of the
United States, he said the more important thing he took from the experience
was the contacts he made with business professionals. "I'm not trying make
a big deal out of it, I don't see this as my 15 minutes of fame," Shokouh said.
"I see this as an experience for ... making terrific contacts that I bring to San
Jose State as guest speakers. The best thing I took was meeting great people
making great contacts."

This was the second time that Shokouh, a former Associated Students president,
met with a government leader from Washington D.C. this semester. On Feb. 20,
he met with Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., along with SJSU
President Don Kassing >>> thespartandaily.com
