Switzerland blocks funds of Haiti ex-leader Duvalier

Switzerland has blocked funds held in Swiss bank accounts by Haiti's former leader Jean-Claude Duvalier under a law that has just come into force.

The funds of some $6m (£3.7m) were frozen in 1986 after Mr Duvalier was ousted as Haitian president.

Last year, a Swiss court ruled that the money be returned to him but the Bern government sought a new law covering the restitution of the money to Haiti.

Mr Duvalier last month made a surprise return to Haiti from exile.

He has been charged with theft and misappropriation of funds during his 1971-1986 rule and is also being sued for torture and other crimes against humanity.

Mr Duvalier, also known as "Baby Doc", has denied any wrongdoing.

How I Love the Swiss and their Cuckoo Republic ...

I just Love the Swiss and their Cuckoo Republic ...

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDplfsZxrbg

They lecture about democracy but benefit from blood diamonds. They complain about mosques but harbor Mullah Funds ... They enjoy a great film director's ...presence on their soil for 17 years or so to promote their film industry only to suddenly feel a moral obligation to arrest him and threaten to extradict him for a crime which was of public knowledge for more than 3 decades. Now they feel an obligation to freez the funds of a dictator who has become an embarrassment to them overnight.

Still they make good chocolates and excellent watches ...

But as Colin Firth would say in the King's Speech I guess: "Timing is Not my Strong Suite" ...

LOL
