ANKARA, Turkey, March 20 (UPI) -- For the second time in less than a week Turkey forced an Iranian cargo plane to land and undergo inspection for suspected illicit materials, officials said.
The plane en route to Syria was forced to land in Diyarbakir in southeast Turkey Saturday night, Israel Radio reported Sunday.
A Turkish official told the DHA Dogan News Agency last week that authorities forced an Iranian plane to land and undergo inspection in Diyarbakir Tuesday night.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry denied media reports suggesting military equipment had been found on board the plane and said it was carrying 150 tons of food.
The plane stopped last week was reportedly heading for the Syrian city of Aleppo.
Meanwhile, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday that Turkey rejected a United Nations' request to inspect Iranian cargo at border checkpoints.
