In what may be an ominous sign of things to come in post-Mubarak
Egypt, the country’s national airline has removed Israel from maps
showing its routes across the Middle East.
The shocking omission, first reported by Ynet News, can be seen on the company’s official website. The new map shows Lebanon stretching south and Jordan reaching the Mediterranean Sea.
“Other airlines based in Muslim countries, such as Turkish
Airlines and Royal Jordanian, include Israel and Tel Aviv on its maps,”
notes Ynet News.
“The omission is especially odd seeing as the company continues to
fly to Israel four times a week. Cairo-Tel Aviv flights were temporarily
halted following the recent uprising that overturned the government,
but were then reinstated.”
Egypt Air explained its position through its Twitter page, saying that “we do not fly to Israel, where on the map on our website we place only the names of the destinations we fly to” in one post.
