We’re all focused right now on Libya and budget battles at home, but this story from Bangladesh just broke my heart and outraged me — and offers a reminder of the daily human rights struggles of so many women and girls in villages around the world. A 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl, Hena, allegedly was ambushed when she went to an outdoor toilet, gagged, beaten and raped by an older man in her village (who was actually her cousin). They were caught by wife of the alleged rapist, and the wife then beat Hena up. An imam at a local mosque issued a fatwa saying that Hena was guilty of adultery and must be punished, and a village makeshift court sentenced Hena to 100 lashes in a public whipping. Her last words were protestations of innocence. An excellent CNN blog post, based on interviews with family members, says that the parents “had no choice but to mind the imam’s order. They watched as the whip broke the skin of their youngest child and she fell unconscious to the ground.”

I probably should do something more as you suggested. I agree It should be started from within ..... Within the muslim community today lies such a dark ignorance that is going to be so hard to overcome but it is not impossible .....
I'll check that Afghan incidence ... thanks for the links

by Reality-Bites on Fri Apr 01, 2011 01:52 PM PDTSeriously, you and like-minded Muslims must start working to overcome these fanatical idiots. If these brain-washed extremists continue to gain momentum, this kind of crulelty will only be the tip of iceberg.
I believe and hope there are enough decent Muslims in the World to turn things around before it's too late.
As I posted in the Kuran burning thread, Afghans protesting against the the burning, in the city of Mazar-e Sharif, just murderd at least 8 UN workers (beheading 2), because they couldn't find any Americans to kill.
(see here: //www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/8422469/Eight-killed-in-worst-ever-attack-on-UN-workers-in-Afghanistan.html )
The mentality of these people still belongs to the Middle Ages. I believe the best way change can happen is from within. But this can only happen if the decent and moderate Muslims get a grip and confront the fanatics.
This is so outrages.
by Soosan Khanoom on Fri Apr 01, 2011 01:48 PM PDTThis is so outrages. Islam today is like christianity at the dark ages. The hypocrisy and cruelty of the clergies is beyond belief. It is happening because muslims within the entire muslim world even those who resides in the west are infected with the mullah /Imam /sheikh viruses. We have to know that as a muslim no one has authority over us but God. "You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them." Quran 17:36
I hope and pray that one day I'll be able to see the eradication of the cruel so called Sharia laws most of which that doesn't even exit in Quran ; for example the stoning. PS. I actually logged in and made this comment on the New York Times as well ..... I am so really pissed off with these things happening anywhere from Iran to Bangladesh
