A FOURTH man is due to appear in court today charged with the street shooting of a former nightclub doorman.

Simon Andrew Smart, 32, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Iranian dad Bahman Faraji, who was killed in Aigburth.

After being quizzed by murder squad detectives Smart, of Kylemore Way, Halewood, was charged with murder yesterday and will appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court today.

Mr Faraji, who was known as “Batman”, was shot at close range by a killer with a shotgun outside the Belgrave pub, on Bryanston Road, at just before 7pm on February 24.

The 44-year-old came to Liverpool 15 years ago to escape persecution in his home country.

Mr Faraji had worked the doors of several clubs and had homes in Toxteth and the city centre.

He had just left the pub with two friends when the gunman struck. Smart is the fourth man to be charged with Mr Faraji’s murder.

Former Brookside actor Brian Regan, 53, of St Mary’s Road, Garston, is among the three men who have been charged with his killing.
