Israel Demands Apple Remove Controversial App

First it was Facebook, now Apple is in the center of a controversy over an app that an Israeli minister says will promote violence.

The “ThirdIntifada” app, according to Reuters, offers news stories, announcements of protests and “links to nationalistic Palestinian videos and songs,” all in Arabic.

Intifada refers to two previous periods of rebellion and protest in the Palestinian territories, beginning in 1987 and 2000. The Second Intifada led to violence and thousands of deaths on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides, CNN says.

The Israeli Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein has written to Apple CEO Steve Jobs requesting the app be removed from the store. "I am convinced that you are aware of this type of application's ability to unite many toward an objective that could be disastrous," he wrote.
