PARIS Nov 21 (Reuters) - France called for new sanctions on an "unprecedented scale" against Iran on Monday in response to Tehran's nuclear programme, urging world powers to halt purchases of Iranian oil and freeze its central bank assets. French President Nicolas Sarkozy sent letters to the leaders of the United States, Britain, Germany, the European Union, Canada and Japan proposing the new actions after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) voiced new concerns about Iran's nuclear programme last week. "As Iran steps up its nuclear programme, refuses negotiation and condemns its people to isolation, France advocates new sanctions on an unprecedented scale to convince Iran that it must negotiate," said a statement from Sarkozy's office. "France therefore proposes to the European Union and its member states, the United States, Japan and Canada and other willing countries to take the decision to immediately freeze the assets of the Iranian central bank (and) stop purchases of Iranian oil," it added. Iranian Industry Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari warned on Monday that threats from Western countries to tighten sanctions were only harming their own interests. >>>

by shushtari on Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:07 PM PSTyou're right....the problem is that they don't want to stop raping iran! they will keep stealing until there's nothing left and iran is left to be like somalia!
so whatever it takes to bring them to their knees.....ordinary iranians are not enjoying iran's wealth right now anyway.....the sooner the akhoonds are crushed the better
and don't worry, they won't be able to keep any of their stolen money once this is all said and done.....
I don't understand Iranians supporting the sanctions????
by Sheila K on Mon Nov 21, 2011 09:47 PM PSTwhat is wrong with you all? Mullahs and their families have already transferred their assets to Europe, US and Canada. So the sanctions only hurt those who don't have anything...

by shushtari on Mon Nov 21, 2011 06:31 PM PSTthat the french step up and try to repent for all their support for the akhoonds over the past 30 years....starting with harboring the devil...aka khomeini is paris, flying him in on an air france jumbo, allowing assassins to kill wonderful iranians such as shahriar shafiq, shapour bakhtiar, and general gholamali oveissi....about time....
Thank You, Mr. Sarkozy!
