by Abarmard on Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:10 AM PSTThe plan to announce a false report is not accidental. It could be that Iran was testing the market responses to a possible move.

It was the EU who didn't
by vildemose on Wed Feb 15, 2012 06:24 PM PSTIt was the EU who didn't want to buy IRI's oil not the other way around.
Mullahs being country bumbkings think people can't see through that...Talk about bein provincial...

As of now, IRI Oil Ministry is denying it
by AMIR1973 on Wed Feb 15, 2012 01:33 PM PSTBut that doesn't prevent the IRI's West-residing cheerleaders here on Iranian.com from beaming with pride at another one of the IRI's amazing "achievements", i.e. bringing both the EU and the Great Satan to their knees. Yeah, right!
This Move by the IRI will have ZERO impact on the EU
by Artificial Intelligence on Wed Feb 15, 2012 01:13 PM PSTThe Saudis had already peldged to make up for the lost oil. I am sure other Gulf nations, such as Kuwait, will also move quickly to minimize any insignificant impact that this move will create on the EU. The IRI has to many enemies (thank god!)!
I'll Leave You before You Dump Me!

Economic strategies that are in process or may follow
by Ari Siletz on Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:22 PM PSTThis move was anticipated in the comment section of an IC blog on Jan 6.
"... the best strategy for the IRI in response to the planned European embargo is to stop selling oil to Europe immediately.
The six month waiting period for the embargo is to cushion the impact
on European economy as they find alternative sources of oil. The IRI
strategists should not allow Europe this respite, as right now Europe is
extremely vulnerable economically. This would undoubtedly have occured
to the IRI think tanks..."
For some speculations as to the IRI economic strategies that are in process or may follow, here's the blog.
This preemptive reaction was discussed and expected….
by Bavafa on Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:01 PM PSTIRI will have little to lose if they are going to lose these customers in a short time so why not a preemptive cut before they have made alternative plans. If the report turns out to be accurate and IRI carry thru with this, it will remain to be seen the effect of it on the EU economy and the US by extension.

وزارت امور خارجه ايران قطع صادرات نفت به اروپا را تکذيب کرد
Mash GhasemWed Feb 15, 2012 08:26 AM PST

The EU had already announced an embargo
by AMIR1973 on Wed Feb 15, 2012 07:41 AM PSTThrough IRI's incompetence, IRI has made Iran's oil production drop from over 6 million bpd in the 1970s (reaching a peak of 6.6 million bpd in 1976) to its current level of just over 3.5 million bpd (and the population then was less than half what it is now, so with more domestic consumption now the fall in oil exports is even more dramatic). Bottom line: IRI has progressively become less important as an oil exporter and the EU will be able to find alternative sources. It's a nice PR stunt though for impressing the West-residing IRI supporters.
