The Iranian

While the power struggle between reformists and conservatives rages on, one tends to overlook the enormous impact of artists on Iranian society at large. Extremism, censorship and repression have marginalized many artists. More than a few have even died for their beliefs. But their free spirit and humanity have been a major source of inspiration and earned them a special place in people's hearts.>>> GO TO FEATURE

Maverick Programmers Prepare To Unleash Anarchy on the Web

The Wall Street Journal
March 27, 2000

IF YOU THINK the Internet is an untamed frontier now, just wait. A new technology sweeping through cyberspace promises to unleash an entirely new wave of anarchy onto the Web, making it impossible for anyone to protect intellectual property online or shut down a rogue Web service.

The early warning came March 14 from a tiny computer program called Gnutella. Created by renegade programmers at a unit of America Online, Gnutella lets people share computer files -- mainly music -- over the Net. AOL yanked the Gnutella Web site within a day, but it was too late. Gnutella is humming with hundreds of people swapping Pink Floyd cuts, and no one can stop them >>> FULL TEXT

Keep lookin'

Letter to The Iranain:

I am looking for a picture of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and Dick Pope Sr, when he visited Cypress Gardens, Florida, USA. The visit was around 1955. Dick Pope Sr is my Grandfather and if you can find one I would be most greatful. I would be glad to purchase this picture.

Thank you in advance for your help.

* Love affair

Walt Williams writes: I read the beautiful story about your sojourn in Iran ["Absence"]. Very well written. It was an adventure for me, one that I will likely never have opportunity to experience myself.

You also demonstrate your intellect and understanding of the good of both countries while remaining honestly objective. Bravo!

And the love affair with your heritage, -- I nearly wept, and yet I have not one drop of Iranian blood in my veins.

* Get smart

Dr Sadeghi writes: I think the report by Kasra is 95% correct and the woman who used to be a prostitute did change overnight. ["She changed overnight"].

Most Iranian women who migrate to the U.S. have a tendency to be like that these days and I feel sad about the men who fall for these beautiful monsters. I have seen so many cases that I think I can make a fair generalization like this.

I think we men need to grow up and get smart: AVOID MARRYING WOMEN FROM IRAN. IF YOU DO YOU BETTER STAY IN IRAN. DON"T BRING IRANIAN WOMEN TO THE U.S. THEY WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE. Don't listen to me and experience it for yourself.
