When politicians love journalists

British/American alliance has now publicly started to give a louder voice to Rafsanjanists inside Iran

When politicians love journalists

I beg to say that the main premise on which Sadeq Saba's new analysis is built upon is just false.

In his piece about the harsh criticism against Ahmadinejad, published in a newspaper in iran called Jomhoori-e Eslami, he argues that support for Ahmadinejad is diminishing among within the senior leadership of Iran.

That's becoming an increasingly popular theme these days and the way I read it is that the U.S./UK official line against Iran is slightly shifting towards exploiting the remaining limited potentials of Rafsanjanists in breaking the political unity and common will behind the nuclear programme and particularly the decision not to give up on the enrichment.

The British/American alliance has now publicly started to give a louder voice to the Rafsanjanists inside Iran (from Shirin Ebadi to Hassan Rohani) and outside (almost all Democrat-leaning figures such as Abbas Milani and Akbar Ganji) in order to widen the potential differences of opinions among the key decision-making figures and institutions.

So it doesn't matter to Mr. Saba that painting Jomhouri-e Eslami as a newspaper that reflects Khamenei's positions is totally false. One only needs to go back and see during the previous elections and afterwards it has always been Rafsanjani who has enjoyed the full support of the newspaper, not Ahmadinejad.

In this context, it is very predictable to see such attacks from one of Rafsanjani's most faithful media allies. And it's not event the first time Jomhouri-e Eslami is diong this. (See an eariler report from January 2007 for example.)

What is happening in the past few months is that Khamenei is becoming more and more supportive of Ahmadinejad in private and public, at the same time that he keeps his distance with him. So Khamenei supports him more while he also criticised him more. (For instance, read the transcript of his speech for the government cabinet a few months ago.)

Mind you that I didn't vote for Ahmadinejad and I have my criticism of many of his actions and rhetoric. However, I can't close my eyes on such obviously inaccurate and politically-motivated journalism that has shamelessly become so common in the Euro-American media.

Apparently Washington post's Robin Wright has become their role model.

You enjoy everything America has to offer and yet you have the audacity to bad mouth it to the nth degree. You are what we used to call, "Ham Azz Tuberh Khor Ham Azz Akhor Khor!" You love the status quo to continue so you can make your twice a year trips to Iran, show off your US $'s and brag about the stuff you do in America, don't you! That's exactly why certain folks in site are absolutely convinced that the problem with the Islamic Republic has one solution only and that is American bombing of it. That's why I strongly believe that this site is infested with criminals like you! QED!

Our common enemy is backwardness

by (:-)) (not verified) on

Arabs are also victim of backwardness. Arabs are not out enemy. Backwardness is the enemy. Our common enemy is backwardness that does not allow freedom to reason and thought. The enemy of Iranian and Arabs is Islam and Islam cult that maintains backwardness and stops development of freedom and democracy.

This common enemy does not allow democracy to come to Middle East.

This common enemy can be used by dark forces of other countries to victimize Iranians and Arabs.

We Iranians need to lead the entire region to light from this darkness of Islam.

Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds

Secular Democratic Federal Republic of Iran is our solution.

what do Iranians want ?(RE: Roya Dorvan)

by Anonym777.5 (not verified) on

Roya, I don't know what Iranian people want, from my last trip to Iran my impression is that they hope that things get better. However, to a large extent I know that Iranians don't want MKO or RezaII.
Additionally it appears that even Bush-neocons do not want to waste US lives and $ to install these bankrupt groups. As you may have seen in fox news or CNN at most they want to "give a bloody nose" to IRI.
Bush-necocons are not very smart but as they say "they are not going to repeat their mistake with Iraq" and occupy Iran.
By the way I am honored that you gave me F, I don't like slogans and you are a teacher of empty slogans.

Hey Triple 7, Iranians want a new Middle East more than...

by Roya Dorvan (not verified) on

anybody else!?

1) Long time ago Iranians wanted a new Middle East! So, on that front, Iranians are in tune with Bush et al!

2) Now, since when a bunch of totally uncorrelated and anecdotal Internet sites which you have read, artificially connected, and justified in your mind should be tantamount to what US wants or doesn't want!?

The most important thing of all is what the Iranians do NOT want! Iranians do NOT want the following:

1) Islamic Republic,
2) Mullahs,
3) IRGCs,
4) Basijis,
5) Islam,
6) Sub-standard living,
7) Sub-standard R5th- rate Russian technology,
8) The list goes on and on...

If the common denominator between America and Iran is a new Middle East, I don't see any problem with that. In fact, Iranians welcome and encourage Iranians and Americans to synergism to get rid of this cancer called Islamo-Fascism!? There are two million Iranians live in America and it is good for Iran and America to be friends. Maybe for folks like you whose interests lie with some other countries (e.g., Brits, Russia, others) it's a bad idea for Iran and America to establish a respectable relationship!?

Triple 7, nowadays any middle schooler goes on the Net and puts together a paper on World politics, you are no exception!? I give you an -F- on your paper!

why US wants to attck Iran (RE: Roya Dorvan)

by Anonymous777 (not verified) on

Roya said:
"America and Israel will never ever allow that to happen! That's why USA is going to bomb the Islamic Republic!"

No, that is not the reason they want to destroy Iran. The Bush-neocon/AIPAC plan for Iran has been in place for many years, since late 90s (look at articles by the spiritual leader of neocons, Michael Ledeen e.g.
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ledeen)
They are not afraid of Iran having the bomb,
as John Abizaid the retired US general said, even an Iran with the bomb is no threat ( see //www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/09/18/france....)
...Efraim Halevy the former head of Mossad made similar statements, see:
//www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic...

They want to attack Iran because as Bush has explicitly said they want a new Middle East. The only reason they have not so far attacked is:
--Last year's Israeli/US experiment in Lebanon (shock and awe aerial attack) failed
--Afghanistan is not under control by any measures after so many years (just see the recent news)
--Pakistan with all its nukes, and fanatics is very unstable
--Iraq is not at its worst, but by no means under control, reconstruction efforts riddled with Iraqi and US corruption. “moderate” Arab governments continue to create problem for US despite their friendly talks
--Kurdish issue is no longer just a problem for the bad guys but for US as well
--War costs, and debt to China could cripple US and potentially West (//news.yahoo.com/s/ap/war_costs)

Hello

by Norm Markov (not verified) on

I am a Russian Jew who immigrated to Israel in the 1990's. I am an engineer and very familiar with the Russian technologies both in the soft and heavy industries. One of the reasons the Soviet Union lost in the cold war was due to its obsolete and inferior technologies. I recall when America was using high-speed computing and processors in their missiles and weapon systems, we were using analog and vacuum tubes (the 40's and 50's technologies) in ours! The speed of processing in the latter was several orders of magnitude slower than its digital counterpart. Use this analogy and apply it to all other areas of Russian technologies. Russians are in search of Western technologies for themselves and they want to dump their useless stuff on sucker like you!

Arezu, I'll give you some

by Farhad Kashani (not verified) on

Arezu, I'll give you some answers:
1-Regime change=Yes, because it has been the will of the overwhelming majority of Iranian people since somewhere in 1979. Replacement would be whatever the Iranian people chose under a U.N observed free election.
2- Foreign Attack: No. Here are the alternatives. We need to engage and hold the IRI responsible for all that’s happening and happened to Iran in the last 30 years, and absolutely no one else. We should understand that the IRI is the biggest threat to world peace. Actions include:
A- Total Oil and Arms embargo on Iran. Iran’s economy runs on oil. Simple math. We need to engage in campaigning for that.
B- Referring Iranian leaders to U.N crimes against humanity court just as they did with Yugoslavia, Uganda and Cambodia. We need to engage in campaigning for that.
C- Funneling support to Iran (including accepting it from any party as long as we do not give up our sovereignty to them and if we are working together against a common enemy)to opposition groups to weaken the grip of the IRI regime.
D- Engaging in intensive campaigns with the U.N, NGOs, governments, civil society, and public opinion around the world for one and only one purpose: Revealing the crimes committed by IRI and acknowledging the threat it possesses. Any campaigns that are organized about ancient and clichés such as anti-imperialism, anti-U.S, anti-Israel, anti-Neo con, anti-old con, anti-Zionist, anti-Budhist..And crap like that, only and only serves the interests of parties who are intending to wage war against Iran simply because they will see their hopes of Iranians taking matters into their hand vanish.
All that being said, if we justify IRIs action, I absolutely and most certainly understand and do not fault, the reasons that foreign countries engage in military action against Iran

To Anonymous123

Enriching uranium is an intermediate step to developing nuclear bombs, something that the Islamic republic wants to ultimately achieve!? America and Israel will never ever allow that to happen! That's why USA is going to bomb the Islamic Republic! We are saying to America there is no need for bombing because Iranians don't want this regime and they don't want the bomb! First, Iranian want democracy and once they obtain that, they will decide whether or not what kind of nuclear technology they want and whose technology they want!? The primitive, dangerous, and sub-standard Chernobyl-like Soviet-ear nuclear technology is not a wise and suitable choice for Iran! True experts/Iranians must determine what and where they obtain the technology not a bunch of bacheh mullahs!? Now, you are not a bacheh mullah, are you!?

Roya, Iran is already enriching uranium, your equations are not applicable any more. You need to get your news from some reliable source. Even watching CNN can bring you back to reality.

There are 2 million Iranians living in USA!

by Roya Dorvan (not verified) on

If 5% of them (100,000) get together and rally in a peaceful and harmonic manner in Washington, D.C. It will send a strong message to both the Mullahs in Iran and the World that Iranians are for the change of a regime! Why is it that during the 70's, Iranians were able to congregate wherever and whenever at the snap of somebody's finger to protest the Shah? Back then, the technologies of choice were word of mouth, phones, copy machines, and maybe fax machines!? Today with all the technological sophistication and convenience, why shouldn't Iranians be able to mobilize masses in Washington D.C., and all over the world? And, I am not worried about who should or shouldn't participate in this challenge! Nobody's ruled in or out of becoming the next leader of the movement and Iran! All folks are welcome!? If Iranians fail to respond to this call and keep deferring, procrastinating, and kicking the can down the road, then I am afraid that we will have to be forced into a forced solution!? Foreign intervention, the very option we keep rejecting now!

default

The Only Solution

by Marg Bar IRI (not verified) on

The only way to change the regime is through the use of force. We Iranians are too weak and don't have the guts to confront this crazy regime and reasonable attempts of progress failed during Khatami. Additionally, this regime is to powerful to be confronted by the mass population. They will kill and mass murder their fellow Iranians without blinking an eye to preserve power. Unfortunately, the only way to change the status is through Western intervention \. Even if Western intervention does not work, at least it will stop these crazy killers from obtaining a nuclear weapon which at did end will result in more Iranian deaths.

Does who claim that anyone who advocates force against this regime is "vatanforosh" are the real vatanforosh themselves since they are complicit in the mullah rule which is the ultimate betrayal of our land.

default

The solution is very simple

by Roya Dorvan (not verified) on

First, the issue of rights to nuclear technology is as resolved and clear as the rise of the Sun tomorrow morning.

1) Iran + nuclear technology = Yes.
2) Islamic republic + nuclear technology = No.

As a result of analysis and choice of the equations above (e.g., #2), we arrive at one path forward! Islamic Republic of Mullahs must go! Of course with the support and desire of Iranian people!

Quod Erat Demonstrandum (QED)!

Now, as to path forward! Start off by organizing peaceful and civilized demonstrations in Washington D.C. More instructions will follow, sty tuned!

Thank you, Arezu!

I am in the process of creating a new site for the pro-democracy crowd. Iranian.com has turned out to be the place for the pro-regime activists. These are different times and we need to organize and concentrate our energy on the removal of the Islamic Republic before it is too late. If we don't do it, then they [US] will try to do it for us. And, we may not like the outcome of it!

To: Roya Dorvan - What is your proposal?

by Arezu (not verified) on

Dear Ms. Dorvan:

Maybe you would like to provide your proposal as to what is the solution that best supports the interest of Iran and the Iranian people and how will this proposal be accomplished?

- Regime Change? - If so by what means? And what back-up group do you have in mind to replace the current regime?

- U.S./Israel attack? - yes/No? - if so how and what should be the targets?

- Iran to give in on the nuclear issue to appease the U.S/Israel, U.K? - yes/No? - if yes what will be the outcome? Or

- Any other solution that you may have which is not listed here.

I am disgusted with the regime supporters here.

Some people love for the status quo to continue so their bank accounts keep getting full with the steady flow of blood money the regime of the mullahs provides. Shame on the supporters of the Islamic Republic.

Dear Moji Aghah what else is going on, on this web-site we have a bunch of vatanfoursh, anti-Iranians, who are asking for the bombing of Iran and killing of the Iranian people to get rid of the Mullahs and IRI regime.

These people have no clue that no bombing of Iran is not going to remove the IRI, only death of innocent people.

REPLY : UPCOMING IRI::::::::::::POINT 3 & 4

by Faribors Maleknasri M.D. (not verified) on

Point 3: the "propaganda mashine has worked! Just acknowledge the following:
US game of arms package for Saudi

US lawmakers say sophisticated satellite guided bombs should not be sold to Saudi Arabia, as it could not only undermine US efforts in the Middle East, but also threaten Israel . It means - as a result of the propaganda mashine achievement - the great satan has lost its best friend! even the most debils have learned it is better to live in peace and freedom with thier mithy rich friendly nieghbore - I mean the IRI - than to give a damn thing to us, which is thousands of miles away and comes to the region only for rubbery!

In a letter to President George W. Bush, up to 190 members of the House of Representatives have warned that the technology could harm US forces in the region if it fell into the 'wrong hands'. please acknoledge the last sentence!

The warning come as President Bush has decided to send a proposed $20 billion arms package for Saudi Arabia to Congress over the next few weeks.
of course the weapons will be accompanied by us- specialists. because as every western is convinced: those arabs down there can not learn to work with these products of western civilisation and likewise arguments. but stil: who knows? may be they can. and suddenly, as in the second gulfwar, all the bombs land freindly in a secret landingband in iran and the pilot ask for assylum in IRI. so happend in the II gulf war. it is said that 500 iraki Pilots found assylum in IRI with their most modern airplanes. because of these planes must irak pay at least 30 Billion $ only on France! Just imagin. on the other hand we must also take into account that IRI does not have only the propaganda mashin but also madhines which produce for example a lot of energy. the
The lawmakers said any sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions technology to Riyadh must come with guarantees backed by conditions notified to Congress.

“Bush Administration should not reward the Saudis repeated efforts to frustrate US goals in the region and in the global war on terror. Rather than providing them with billions of dollars in military equipment, it is time that the Bush administration holds Saudi Arabia accountable for its actions,” said US congressman, Mike Ferguson.

The lawmakers said Saudi groups export Wahabi extremist ideology throughout the world.

“What we know of the Saudis is that we depend on their oil and they in turn use our oil money and fund the terrorists who are killing us around the planet. Why would we reward the Saudis for this kind of behavior?” said Representative Shelley Berkley.

Representative Anthony Weiner said that Riyadh was not even Washington's ally in Iraq where foreign fighters that are coming to the battle field are Saudi citizens.

In their letter which was coordinated by Republican Congressman Mark Kirk and Democrat Christopher Carney, the congressmen also called for US consultations with its key ally, Israel, over the sale, saying it could undermine Israel's superiority in the region.

The Saudi arms package is part of a huge weapons sale to US allies in the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions. The package which was announced in July was supposed to counter Al-Qaeda, Lebanon s Hezbollah, Iran and Syria. It included 13 billion dollars of arms for Egypt and at least 20 billion dollars for other Persian Gulf allies.

But, Tel Aviv objected to the plan, saying the advanced weaponry would erode its military advantage over its regional rivals. One month later, Washington singed a deal with Israel to boost its military aid to 30 billion dollars over the next decade.

This was welcome news for Israel whose Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said “In addition to the huge increase of the security aid to Israel, this was a renewed, explicit and detailed commitment to keep Israel s advantage over the Arab States.”

Meanwhile, critics argue that additional weapons sales to Israel will only favor Washington's hawkish policies and never serve the cause of peace.

They say the already-unstable Middle East has been getting further destabilized by Tel Aviv. Critics believe this US-proposed plan for Israel is nothing but fueling tension in the Middle East.

Such high level of the White House commitment to Israel creates doubts as to whether the Arab US allies including Saudi Arabia will ever receive the promised arms package or the whole thing is a game to guarantee Israel's strategic superiority in the region.
POINT 4 : I think only those Iranians can call Iran OUR country, who live in IRI. They decide how they want to live. obviously - if it is so that they have no "FREEDOM" no "DEMOCRACY" short: No nothing, may be it is so because they want it so. anyway no other beiing, irrespective how intelligent and smart she/he is, can call the IRI as OUR country.
I think it is better for me to come to an end now. in "IRANIAN" is nothing sacred. but there are things which are even less sacred and are not supposed to be mentioned. and if a person, naive and misinformed as me ever dares to do so there comes a boiling shower of "nice words" upon him. Greeznig.
