Earlier this month I got an email from Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi's webmaster & secretary inviting me to assist to an annual Paris ceremony in remembrance of her late daughter Princess Leila (March 27, 1970 - June 10, 2001) which was followed by a more relaxed reunion in a Hotel lounge and drawing room for all who were kind enough to attend the gathering at the Passy Cemetery nearby the Trocadero. The invitation was really an unexpected one for me even if I knew that she did read them since I saw some of them (in relation to our Royal History) linked to her official website. >>> FULL TEXT

The Majesties!
by Ferdos (not verified) on Mon Jun 23, 2008 08:07 AM PDTDear Darius,
With all due respect to you and those of the readers of this site, there are no more "Majesties!"
In 1979 the regime of his Majesty Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was overthrown. Whether by "foreign hands" or by popular demand, it is gone forever.
Farah Diba is no longer her Majesty ; neither all the deposed monarchs of Europe or old Russia who were the guests of honor at the 2500 year celebration
of the Persian Empire. Remember, when Caviar was served and Maxim of Paris provided the food for a bunch of deposed and corrupt leaders. While ordinary Iranians watched in bewilderment at the gross, costly and stupid celebration (the men on horses with their fake beards) run by his and her Majesty?!!
Farah Diba is just an ordinary citizen who could and should do more but alas, she is like the rest of the Pahlavis.

"After how [the Pahlavis] hurt iran", says "Azaadeh". (Beautiful name!)
Azaadeh Khanum,
Would you please educate us with FACTS as to how the Pahlavis "hurt" Iran? Perhaps one is misguided here, but the impression one gets in reviewing the FACTS is that Reza Shah and his son Mohammad Reza Shah *saved* Iran.
Mr. Kadviar,
Next time you have Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi's ear, do ask if she has reflected on the role of the Rockefellers in "throwing the Shah out like a mouse".
"a man's enemies (will be) men of his own house" (Micah 7:6)

Get a Clue People!
by celebrity factor (not verified) on Mon Jun 23, 2008 07:27 AM PDTOH FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD! Does everything have to be POLITICAL? Have you noticed most everything Mr. Kadivar writes or posts has a cultural, entertainment, celebrity/Iranian celebrity, flavor to it? Have you EVER read anything the man writes? I am 100% sure these pics were not posted to decide the Future of Iran and politics of the middleeast, so to all of you out there, you are wasting your time and effort. Would you write to "People" magazine or "entertainment tonight (ET)" or "Paris Match" or "le monde" or whatever, and ask them about the price of oil or Opec or the Iraq war or the Palestinian conflict? WOuld you expect an indept and politicaly relevant article on Obama vs Mcain in " STAR" magazine? Or do you read them to see which martian had an affair with Michelle Obama and what dress and shoe designer was she wearing when it happended? Get a clue people! Enjoy the pictures, skim the article and move on, I'm sure you all have lives and jobs!Stop the ridiculous, ancient and completely irrelevant and useless debates about monarchy vs. mullahcracy, get over it already. Whether you like it or not, Farah Pahlavi is a celebrity, and she will be reported on,more for her style and fashion choices and for the cultural events she attends are you going to have fit everytime you see her picture in the media? @!! Then Good luck to you, cuz you have LONG way ahead of you.
PEACE

by botshekan (not verified) on Mon Jun 23, 2008 05:15 AM PDTAllow me to answer your question as Mr Kadivar is too shy to answer. Mr Kadivar is not a Pahlavi monarchist in the classical meaning of it. He is, what you may call, a "man-darovordi monarchist." He admires the Shah but doesn't approve of his son. He admires Mossadegh but thinks he had to be removed. He admires Shirin Ebadi as a heroic figure but skips the part that she was (and is) staunchly anti-Pahlavi. He worships Marjane Satrapi (anti-pahlavi) and takes pictures with Nazanin Afshin-Jam (pro-pahlavi) at the same time (all in the name of being an Art and Film critic of course). He kisses Farah's hand but thinks she is better off to attend fashion shows than political rallies.
There are more interesting feartures to Mr Kadivar's self-styled monarchism but I leave them for another time.

Unless there 's something in your life, that makes you suspecious of all women.

We should learn to respect......!!
by ebi amirhosseini on Sun Jun 22, 2008 02:40 PM PDTSome commentators here, while pretending to be politically matured,open-minded & know-all (mostly disguising behind phony or annonymous names & avatars),bad-mouth Mr Kadivar for being loyal & steadfast in his political views;i.e' a Monarchist!!.Although, persaonally I don't agree with his politcal views, but I respect his courage( or whatever you want to call it ),to express his views.I hope all of us have the courage & willpower to be as loyal to our political views as he is!!.
If we claim to be " Democracy seekers" ( As I want to call it),then we have a long way to go ahead in order to have this "Democratic Utopia" in Iran.If we donot agree with sb's views,we should try to give a constructive(negative or positive) comment to his/her blog, trying to stick to the subject & not to derail from subject matter to satisfy our own shortcommings!!!.
P.S.
AS "etiquette teacher " wrote, this is a part of being polite, not necessarily "bending....",as one comment suggested. If you read Mr Kadivar's Biography, you will understand that he comes from the generation of men who(did & still do):
1-Open the door for a lady(wether a girfriend,wife,mother or a total stranger).
2-Believe(& act) in the saying " Ladies First ".
3-Eventhough,not a smoker, but always carry a lighter in case a lady next to them needs a light !.
4-Always carry a clean cotton handkerchief, again,in case a lady needs one(even nowadays that we have paper tissues).
The list will go on......
best Wishes

by Kurdish Warrior (not verified) on Sun Jun 22, 2008 12:19 PM PDTEven though the Shah was seen to many as dictator, where it's regime only survival was Savak by suppressing the oppositions and other Iranian groups I still think they were far better than these animals (Mullahs). Monarchy shouldn't and wouldn't come back however I believe that REZA could be a tool to unite the different political and ethnic oppositions to bring down the mullahs.

Q for Dota Irooni:
by Saman on Sun Jun 22, 2008 09:31 AM PDTIt always surprises me when people use “England - Holland - Sweden - Denmark - Norway - Spain – Japan” as the model for Iranian Monarchy! Where have you been all these years? Iran’s Monarchy was closer to the Arab Monarchy. Tyrannical and cruel! The kings and queens of England - Holland - Sweden - Denmark - Norway - Spain – Japan are bunch of powerless freeloaders excused to suck up tax money instead of being executed on the streets when their powers were taken away in a civilized manner. They don’t control the parliament or torture organizations like SAVAK. These so called “Western royal families” are outdated furniture at best. Iran already has a freeloading royal Mullah family … so what’s the point of replacing the Turban back to crown? For symbolic purposes? Wouldn't that be the cherry on top of cake ... when there is no cake? How does inheriting power by default within the same family make a country free?
To Dota Iraooni
by Pahlevan (not verified) on Sun Jun 22, 2008 09:02 AM PDTFirst of all England, Spain and etc, are not real monarchies. The Queen of England or the king of Spain, unlike the Shah, hold no political power. Secondly, you should know that in my opinion the revolution was a mistake because the Pahlavi regime, unlike the Islamic republic, was reformable and while it was not a democracy it could have been transformed to one. But Monarchy and Theocracy are outdated systems and choosing monarchy over democracy would be naive and stupid.

by Arash Kamangir (not verified) on Sun Jun 22, 2008 04:31 AM PDTDear Mr. Kadivar,
Khosha be hal shoma. Her majesty Farah Pahlavi is the dignity and pride of all iranians. Her Majesty Farah and His Majesty Reza Pahlavi went through alot of hardship during and after satanic revolution but they did not give up thier duties as royals. They have a big heart and I am sure they have forgiven those who have been unfair to them.
His Majesty Muhammed Reza Shah said fully right in his last interview that History will judge if he was a good king or a bad one.

by javaneh29 on Sun Jun 22, 2008 04:18 AM PDTThank you for posting these pictures it is sad to see any mother mourning her child regardless of the past and what part she wittingly played in that. We will never really know the truth about that.
To all you who have made some derogetry comment about Shahbanou Farah, have some respect for a mothers grief. She was a victim too as much as anyone else whether she was Shahbanou then or is still entitled to be called such. It is all relative. The moment here is about a mothers loss.

by Azad999 (not verified) on Sun Jun 22, 2008 03:41 AM PDTIt is so pathetic that the Pahlavis are now literally sending INVITATIONS to people to come and worship them to boost their egos a little. Luckily for them, there has always been few people like Kadivar, who wouldn't hesitate to bend over like a slave in front of his master and kiss their "Royal" hand!
Still deluded after all these years
by botshekan (not verified) on Sun Jun 22, 2008 01:31 AM PDTNo I am not talking about Kadivar. His condition is called Narcissism - being in love with one's own image, hence the photo opportunity here and hand-kissing, etc. I will deal with him later. I am talking about Farah Pahlavi (nee Diba).
It is now well over forty five years that this lady is caught between two worlds and has not found or even sought a way out. One world is the world of a dutiful Queen who is abiding by her Monarch husband's dreams and ideals for his country and the other world is that of a societal rebel who seeks to undermine the establishment and promote her own teenage days fascinations with the rebellious youths of her days. She never gave up yearning on being a non-conformist espouse to a conservative Monarch or a wife who had missed out on the best days of her rebellious life by marrying a man some twenty years older than herself. To this day, Farah is still deluded about her true position in the society. She want to be so many things at the same time. On the one hand she knows that it is expected of her to act as a dignified Queen Dowager, widowed as well as breaved by the loss of her youngest daughter. On the other hand, she is finds it so difficult to restrain her youthful ambitions and wishes to be a carefree woman who may be seventy years old but remains seventeen in spirit( //www.payvand.com/news/07/mar/1060.html).
Farah's dream of a non-conformist has never ben fully fulfilled. She often must have envied the reckless life of her predecessor, Queen Soraya, who after deing freed from the restrictions of the court of Pahlavi, and her Pahlavi in-laws, lead a free-spirited life in Europe and enjoyed a frivlous lifetime of fame and fortune. But Farah's appetite was much more wide-ranging. She wanted to have both the regal life of a Queen with all its power and privileges as well as being surrounded by her old days' companions and the type of charcters, who like herself, were anti-establishment rebels. This duality in desire was to be the root cause of her downfall. She not only could not guide her ailing husband in the right direction but instead accelerated his drive towards doom and diaster. And when the King goes down, with it a whole nation goes down. I think you know the rest of the story.
But as for our Narcisstic character, Mr Kadivar, this photo essay has served it purpose. Now all the women, and men if you prefer, on this site have a good idea how he looks (//www.persianmirror.com/Article_det.cfm?id=18...).
