Soul for Sale
by capt_ayhab

A day doesn’t go by that one can’t find whole slough of blogs, oped’s, news articles in various sorts of publications that talk about plan this to sanction Iran, plan that to bomb Iran and etc. For that fact Iranian.com is no exception.

For a moment let us ASSUME that crippling and airtight sanctions will eventually bring the people of target nation to the boiling point in a way that they will pour into streets by million, The security forces of the target country will willingly put down the arms, batons, maces and all their anti movement gear and join the angry but STARVED populace armed with only forks and picks and storm the palace that Rahbar resides, simultaneously they over come various IRCG strongholds, army barracks and finally the presidential palace[our beloved vetted Ahmadinejad].

Once the dust settles, the triumphant but starved, tired and ill from many many months if not years of naval blockade and airtight sanctions by freedom loving super powers and their cohorts nations, one of our fighting PATRIOTS picks up the phone and calls on the same peace-freedom loving democratic nations to come in and build another nation and democracy in IRAN as they did few years ago in a country Also Known As Iraq.

Happy ending isn’t it?

Of course this might be a happy ending for the ones who have been spending their every minute of their every day begging the so called peace loving freedom hugging western democratic countries to impose the sanction –the crippling kind nonetheless – on their OWN country.

But reality is far from this rosy picture, even for these self proclaimed, newly defined meaning of patriots. For one thing, these freedom loving patriots may or may not like the ruins that they will return to. That is if we assume that they would want to return to a country with shattered economy, a country with her infrastructure in ruins after months and years of crippling sanctions, a country whose sole natural resource is being pumped out by foreign oil consuming countries/companies in reparation and repayment of the FAVOR they have done to our PATRIOTS in bestowing the long yearned democracy and long awaited fall of Islamic Theocracy.

Secondly, as the bright history of effectiveness [sarcasm]of airtight sanctions reveals, they are designed for but to weaken and soften anation’s spirit in advance of military strikes. You ask how?

1.      - Nazi Germany blockaded the Great Britain for months in the hopes of breaking the spirits of English into submission causing catastrophic famine and starvation on the nation while bombarding the civilians.

2.      - US imposed sanctions on Iraq 3 days after 1990 Iraq invasion of Kuwait causing the deaths of 500,000 children in addition to nearly one million adults. This human tragedy ended with all out war on innocent women, men and children of Iraq, causing hundreds of thousand of death and million in displaced human beings.

Point of the argument is not whether one wishes an IRAN with all of  her majestic history, beautiful landscape and above all the most beautiful of traditions and people to be free from the chains of imposed Islamic Regime, which single handedly has suffocated, oppressed, imprisoned, tortured, raped and killed the brightest of our youth for 30 years just so they can stay in power.

But rather the question is, which foreign country, which jackbooted mercenary are you willing to sell your soul to in order set your country in ruins?

Perfectly said dear Ms. Parsi, they are indeed  driven by personal agenda instead of just thinking about the catastrophic consequence of their ideology.

Take a look at this clip please and see what Dr. Shirin Ebadi say about the issue.

thanks to you and the contributors for a sane blog in the midst of the current madness going on on IC. i was going to write a blog about it, but better to summarize it here:

it seems that a large number of contributors are more interested in their own personal fantasies about iran rather than what is actually happening, and with no regard for the consequences. people are just sloganeering, parrot fashion, like those nauseating friday prayer chants of iri. i don't get the point of such emotional outbursts devoid of even a shadow of reality. many expat iranians have turned into mouthpieces for aipac. it seems like that here at least. long way away and fading through the years, it seems that we have lost touch with iran's reality. some even to the extent of wishing for war and sanctions. turning iran into a video game.

I whole heartedly agree that we all need to unite our voices and confront military attack against Iran and Iranians. Our opposition to military or sanction against Iran should not be taken as our approval of the regime in Tehran either.

I strongly believe any external force against Iran will result only in uniting Iranians thus extending the life of IRI and also the change that will be brought to Iran by external forces (West in this case) will never be really good for Iran and Iranians. As you cited, the event of 1953 and other examples around the world has clearly shown this very well.

you are welcome. This has always been my position. Sometimes people mistake my warnings of Western intentions as approval of them. That is not true. I make my warnings to prevent a war not to encourage it.

In fact if it was not for the West we most likely would have had a Secular Democracy since the days of Dr. Mossadegh. I also have no illusions about the West intentions. That is why I think we need to be prepared for any eventuality.

We need to put aside our differences and focus on what is good for Iran. Most of us agree that a war is bad for Iran. So we need to unite our voices in opposing it. We can then argue about details.

Neoconservative approach doesn't work with Iran;or anywhere else

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

Timothyfloyd actually tried to use Rigi against me. He said that his capture and interrogation should make me feel bad, and maybe worse than the rendition of us darkies from the Euro to asian continents!

I wonder if Timothy feels sorry for Tim McVeigh? Especially if McVeigh's bombing had killed his friends or family?

This is the kind of BS we are dealing with. That same guy would probably cheer when Rigi was blown up by William Kristol's Iranian wet dream.

The middle east is just a playground for some people.

Thank you ever s much for well thought and well reasoned[as usual] comment.

I particularly commend the analogy you used that of "Carrots and Stick" and "the dogs". Indeed it is utter shame that we allow, as a proud nation with out rich and powerful history, literature, science and tradition to be talked down as though we are bunch animal[due respect to ALL] that have to be either rewarded by some goodies or be punished if we did not preform want we are told perfectly.

P/S Thanks for your point on our own history of war with Iraq and imposed sanctions which ended in death of millions.

That brings important issues, which most of us need to think and comprehend their importance. It's great to see that we are gradually realizing that our political fights are twofold. Aware societies have released their leashes and have gained their true independence. Then only true freedom is possible.

Thanks for the blog.

Opposition

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

Just for the record: I am opposed to ANY military attack on my home Iran. We shall sort thing out in our way and do not need any more deaths imposed on us. In time Iran will become a Secular Democracy. Not due to foreign attacks but due to Iranian internal reform. So the West may shove it and leave our nation in peace.

Q

by IranMilitaryForum.net on

Totally agree with what you wrote. I can see why Iran is feared by Israel and the West. Iran's recent history has no parallel. Iran was forced to go to one of the worst wars in 20th century after WWII, was severely sanctioned, was politically isolated, economically weakened by controlling oil prices and so on, and yet Iran flourished with an unbelievable resilience. Today, Iran is surrounded by NATO and US forces and is under constant military threat and yet Iran continues its independent path. That is true power!!!!

Q, they called it "carrots and sticks"

by MeyBokhor_Manbarbesuzan on

They called it "carrots and sticks" first refering to how one tames donkeys -- but Iran told them what to do with their carrots and sticks and where to shove them. Now that phrase is rarely used.

The same will happen to the term "air tight sanctions" suggested by people with air tight brain cells.

Q

Problem with sanctions: Iranians are not DOGS!

by Q on

The problem with sanctions theory is that those who believe in it think Iranians are dogs.

You punish a dog by not feeding him, or depriving him of something it wants to do until it complies with the wishes of the master: obedience training.

Likewise, the West is angry that Iranians have not risen up and destroyed their own government, replacing it with a western-friendly regime with minimal costs to the west. They haven't done this yet, despite the wishes of the Western media!

They say: "Why?, Why do they hazitate to carry out our wishes? Maybe they need some training."

The attitude (third-world brownies = dogs) was invented in Western colonialism but perfected by the Israelis.

This is exactly why our Israeli-owned friends on this site casually advocate genocidal sanctions like "abeh khordan". This is exactly how Israel deals with Palestinians: collective punishment, making life hard, and taking away their dignity just so they know their place.

The kicker is, it hasn't worked for 60 years and it's not going to work in the long run. But a racist mind is often too rigid to change.

By the way, Capt, you forgot the most apt analogy of all: Iran during the 80's. Our own country went through severe and military-enforced sanctions, including targeting of oil exports and gas imports. Even the staunchest Likudnik can only dream of achieving the kind of economic warfare that Iran suffered in the early 80's.

That obviously didn't work, what chance does another round of UN sanctions have?

Good writing as always.

I also call these "anti Iran" Individuals as "self proclaimed patriots" !

They would commit anything for their despicable ends. Be it, cheering terrorists, attacking Iran, supporting sanctions, manufacture lies and so on, are all fair game to these low lives!!!

Interesting, they all choose passionate Iranian Avatar names. But one thing is for certain, THEY ARE NOT IRANIANS!

Your history is backward

by marzutra on

Britain blockaded Germany, not the other way around. The German navy tried cut off British shipping, but the most they could do with their U-boats was harrass the occasional convoy. They also put considerable effort into their missile program. It is funny how Iran's military doctrine is so similar to Nazi Germany.

Joke is on us. Karl Rove is on yahoo.com

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

Karl Rove admits in his new book that it was damaging to the administration, but the war was still right.

WHAT THE HELL?! WHAT?! Does this not prove what we've been saying all along? It's never about the "nuculars." What a pathetic bunch of leaders running this country. Truly embarrassing. Imagine that your son or daughter dies there in war. Husband or wife. And this bald a-hole is in charge of the decision. Americans are nuts. Iranians are too, but this is just too much for America. Is it really this stupid, this society?
