From SCE Website

Stop Child Executions has sent the following letter about Delara Darabi to Iran's head of judiciary, Ayatollah Shahrudi asking him to bring those responsible for Delara's illegal execution to justice.

To prevent repeat of such injustices we must strongly demand accountability for such inhumane actions.

We ask everyone to also send this or similar demand with your name to the office of Ayatollah Shahrudi and others addresses listed below as soon as possible.  Please also post it on different internet sites and send to your email list and ask to be forwarded. We will also post and send the letter in Persian after translation. (Volunteer need to type the letter in Persian. Contact: info@stopchildexecutions.com)

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

                    Quote from Quran

Your Excellency Ayatollah Shahrudi, the head of Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran:

The unexpected news of the execution of Ms. Delara Darabi in the prison of city of Rasht has raised many questions in the minds of the caring citizens of Iran and the world.

Despite your official order for a two month stay of the execution and without any prior notice to her family or attorneys, in the early morning hours of Friday May 1, 2009 Delara Darabi was hanged.

According to official laws of the Islamic Republic, Iranian juveniles convicted to death sentence only after 48 hours official notice to the family and attorneys and only in their presence can be executed; however neither of these requirements was met in the case of Delara Darabi.

Your Excellency Ayatollah Shahrudi:

Presuming that the Islamic Republic despite its official ratifications of the both UN Conventions of the Rights of the Child and the Rights of Prisoners which had also been approved by Irans Guardian Council has no obligation in their implementations and can execute those juveniles who have committed a crime before the age of 18:

Presuming that the Islamic Republic of Iran has no obligation to respect the international laws as its own after they have already been approved by the Iranian parliament:

Presuming that it was legal and just that the initial court hearing of Delara Darabi continued its session without the presence of her first attorney:

Presuming that a few hours of court time were sufficient enough to decide the life or death of a young girl:

Presuming that the initial confession that was taken from Delara Darabi was true and a scared 17 year old minor should not have been made aware of her self-incrimination rights and consequences of such confession before obtaining it:

Presuming that the five years that Delara languished in prison, claiming her innocence until the end had no weighted significance:

Presuming that Delara Darabi had no legal appeal rights for reconstruction of the murder scene to establish whether or not this small framed left-handed girl committed the offence or not:

Presuming that Delara Darabi was guilty of murder beyond a reasonable doubt and her 17 years of age had no bearing on the death penalty verdict:

Presuming that your official order as the head of the judiciary to grant a two month stay of execution for Delara Darabi had no significance to the lower judges, prison officials and the executioner in the city of Rasht:

Presuming that the victims family insisted on Delara Darabis immediate execution the day before she was hung:

Presuming that the numerously repeated words of "merciful and compassionate in the very beginning of every chapter of the Muslim holy book Quran had no relevance to Delara Darabis fate:

Presuming all of the above 11 points:

  • In accordance to the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran was it not Delara Darabis right, for her family and attorney to be given 48 hours official notice before her execution?
  • And at the very least as a human, a Muslim and an Iranian and according to the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran did Delara Darabi have the right to have her family and attorney present at the time of hanging?
  • On the day of the hanging of Delara Darabi were the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran violated or not?
  • Why is one like Delara held responsible before the law for murder while the others responsible for her illegal execution are not?
  • Should the written laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran be implemented or are they simply written words that can be violated by anyone with an official title or clothing?

Your Excellency, as the head of the judiciary if you expect Iranians to respect and act according to the written laws and be held responsible when the laws are broken, then also those who were responsible for the illegal execution of Delara Darabi should be brought to justice.

Respectfully,

Stop Child Executions

Where you can find me

by David ET on

In case anyone wonders where to find me, I will be back to my old blog at //peyvast.blog.com among other things !

Thank you for all the kind comments and emails.

Goodbye Iranian.com. Was interesting while it lasted.

Peace

Dear friends

by David ET on

Last thing that we want to do during these dark years of Iranian history is to point at each other that is why I just a made a short comment about my departure from iranian.com in middle of comments and as a respect to the wonderful people that I had the honor of getting to know and learn so much from online here

Therefore please allow me to say the least as there are bigger battles to be in :

with all the responses to Delara Darabi's execution it was ALSO responsibility of Iranian.com not to just leave the matter at memorial and if not for Delara and if not for Iranian nation but at least for some resolution, respect and direction to its own readers should joined in demanding accountability and justice instead of leaving the battle half way! just as it missed few crucial days prior to her scheduled execution

To say the least at times it has been embaressing to me to see the overwhelming response of non iranians versus iranian.com at the most crucial times of need.

just as iranian.com was mostly absent when 300,000 signatures were mobilized to save Nazanin Fatehi and even US TV networks and 1000's of non iranians through myspace were selflessly helping and when we had to collect bail money everywhere else but through iranian.com due to lack of any cooperation .
let these be burried here but
yes the fight continues but somewhere else where I can be more efficient and I am sure there are many responsible people who will continue here too
for now as for this site before getting to IR as a community at times you need to pass through some failed judgements at iranian.com first
Life is short and battles abundant and this is not the place for me anymore

..and to the one (whom I know) that wrote the junk below : whoever I am or am not but at least I have enough balls not to hide as an annonumous pest that you are.

and to all respectful others see you around the cyberspace if not in person

been a pleasure and as always I wish the most success to iranian.com and its editor

You're leaving? Again?

by you know who! (not verified) on

some things never change LL do they? You have to make a statement and leave! get people to rush in with their heartfelt comments begging you to "sangareto negah-dar" so your exit would just become a huge dramatic phenomena!

Go ahead and point a finger here and there too, it makes it more dramatic when you leave heart-broken, a lost and hopeless Jedi of sorts.

Then in a few weeks come back again all glorious and forgiving, take the throne and start preaching to everyone about human rights... which reminds me... would you have even joined SCE for the sake of human rights alone? I always wondered about that... hmmmm

Well go on and leave iranian.com maybe you can start your own blogs and have any one and everyone from all walks of life and all different views join in for free and write their own blogs on your site.
Lets see how long you can manage such a free and progressive site and how long will you tolerate all the ones who blame you for the negative comments they get and for not meeting their expectations. Lets see how fair you'd be when folks get into heated arguments.

How long do you think your site would last? I am curious!

;-) (lets pretend we don't know the answer to that already)

Go on! Good bye! Auf wiedersehen!
you drama queen you!

Dave: You must stay

by babak pirouzian on

If you leave, isn't it what IRI and their thugs are looking for?

All of us, some how are affected by similar injustice, more or less, but that doesn't mean we have to quit. Stay and fight, that's part of our duty.  If you leave , I leave and a few others do the same , who would fight for our rights? In next democratic regime in Iran, we shall see these type of backstabing and more , then we should get use to it now; for the sake of democracy, David, stay.

I understand your tremendous loss and possible disillusionment after working for years on Delara's case and the out come.  But I don't understand you leaving Iranian.com, I really don't.  Nobody said that it was going to be easy, what you have under taken is no small task.  To defend and try to protect  human rights in a system that fundamentally does not understand the relevance of such ideas is a monumental task.  You have enlightened me for one on a number of issues that I would have otherwise been ignorant about.

What does leaving achieve?  Another voice silenced? This one would not be by the Islamic Republic.  This time it is you who is silencing this valuable voice.

Dear all

by David ET on

I Did stay around and expressed concerns and this was just the final breaking point.
2 years of putting up with certain inequalities and lack of proactivity at the most crucial times of need but being there at times of sensationalism and commercialism is enough.
As for SCE that is a decision for the board but as for me I no longer can contribute here and condone the attitude
If you agree that those responsible for Delaral's murder should be brought to justice and if you think Iranian.com had the responsibility to post this demand on its first page you too can post this letter on your blog for more readership.

This is another trait of

by Anonymous1 (not verified) on

This is another trait of some of us that needs to be dealt with, if we ever want to have a democracy. As soon as somebody disagrees with us, some take it too personal and want to quit, and others may start throwing insults or accusations, etc.

Why so much drama? Stay around and express yourself. What if it is not featured? You know that campaign has an important message, and leaving is not going to help it around.
