It has been a while since I have written anything, not that I didn’t have anything to say but that I doubted if stating what was in my mind would have made any difference until some of the emotions subside and until the right time comes.
In fact if emotions are still controlling your thoughts or actions (or lack of) about the post-election events in Iran, take this as your chance to stop reading the rest and move on with what you usually do or have been doing because reading on would require some serious “thinking”!
And if are still reading on, I must ask you to "pause" and:
Define Green! Where did it come from? Why green? Is there a document that defines its nature and its goals? What did it mean before the elections? and what does it mean now? What is its intent and most importantly: where do you think it is going?
Now! Do you think your answers are (or need to be) somewhat the same as others who are standing under its banner or leading it or wearing it, promoting it or following it?
Most people have been avoiding the questions, let alone answering them. Many have been delaying or justifying the lack of clarity and some have even said: This not the time to ask (or answer)! Well if it’s not, then this is your second chance to stop reading and move on!
But if are still with me!! I am going to ask you to read the questions again, think about them and answer them for yourself or for the rest of us! Until then I will only leave you with this thought:
I don’t know who burned Khomeini’s poster. I don’t care if it was pre-staged by the regime or it was done by The People. I don’t care if the regime is trying to take advantage of it … But I am glad it happened and it was about time.
This is the defining moment that I was anticipating before breaking my silence.
To be continued

Indeed emotions are important part of human behavior, but allowing the emotions to take control of logic, thoughts or actions is not wise especially in social and political contexts.
My comment in the blog was: "In fact if emotions are still controlling your thoughts or actions (or lack of)...."

Azadeh jan, recent hostility toward Jaleho? many feel the same
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Dec 15, 2009 08:47 PM PSTDear Azadeh, I am with you. Unlike David, it makes a difference for me who tore up Khomeini's picture. Just like you, I prefer actions and slogans that I know where they came from. As far as Jaleho, I have been upset with her defense of the killers for a while now.
Welcome back!
by Nazy Kaviani on Tue Dec 15, 2009 08:12 PM PSTGood to see you back David! I am with Azadeh on not being able to separate thoughts and emotions on this one. In fact I have been so moved that I have actually written a piece about this! Imagine that! You were gone for a few months and look at what happened! I will have to share my thoughts separately, though, as they comprise a three page document already! Obviously, I think and feel a lot about the green movement!
Welcome back David. It wasn't the same without you.

The defining moment for me
by Azadeh Azad on Tue Dec 15, 2009 06:47 PM PSTFor me the defining moment was when people began chanting, "Independence, Freedom, Iranian republic." Unlike the tearing up of Khomeini’s poster, which is dubious, this slogan was initiated and chanted by the people. It refuted the Islamic Republic and clearly asked for a secular one.
However, I don’t understand why you separate emotions from thoughts. I use both of them at the same time, and sometimes my thoughts control my emotions. An example of this is my recent hostility towards a commentator on this site, JalehO, as I know she defends the Islamic Military Dictatorship of Iran and is against the Green Movement. The thought of this movement being crushed by her Military Dictators, or a foreign attack on Iran being provoked by their Imam Mahdi-oriented ideology, is too overwhelming for me.
