Just like men, why shouldn't women be proud of their body?
by Shazde Asdola Mirza on Sat Apr 04, 2009 09:39 PM PDTAs you perhaps know, I am against porn and sexual exploitation of women, because it ruins the younger generation and robs them of a healthy lifestyle.
But Carla's picture is not even sexual. At least I don't take any sexual pleasure from looking at it. It is more like a beautiful statue, say the famous David of Michael Angelo. Same sense of strenght in fragility, same confidence in simplicity.
Women should be free in attire be it chadoor or bikini, but what is bothersome in Ms. Ahmadi's is the dominance of shame and guilt towards one's own body, and perhaps even existance. As though being a woman is shameful and sinful, and should be hidden and denied.
Dear azadeh
by David ET on Sat Apr 04, 2009 06:03 PM PDTI had not seen the stamp. Good one.
Indeed women's (and human's) choice of form of clothing , cover or lack of is none of any government or organized religion's business.
Indeed the photo of Bruni was from the time that she was a model and in fact an artistic one which I have no problem with.
She also makes a great first lady just as Michelle Obama does. Here is a beautiful photo of the two today:

What about...? /janus Patriarchy?
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Sat Apr 04, 2009 05:32 PM PDTwhat about la ciccolina, porn star turned member of Italian parliament? that was...quite a while ago..

As for two-faced patriarcy, a few years ago I saw Hamid Dabashi speak and he said (I paraphrase), Islam is obessed with covering the female body and the West is obsessed with uncovering it and I wish they both would just leave it alone.
But I dunno. Madame looks pretty good in the photo. Except a tad anorexic. (Bulimic???)
Wrong again David
by بت شکن on Sat Apr 04, 2009 05:05 PM PDTCarla Bruni is a product of the House of Versace, among others. She is the end result of a liberated French way of life and thinking. Zohreh Ahmadinejad is a product of our own House of Qum. Revolution, as you prefer to call it, did not create her. She, and her kind, existed before, long before 1979. But guess what: our liberal minded thinkers brought her back to the spotlight.
DOWN WITH THE REVOLUTION.
ps - now David who is being ridiculous?
The two faces of patriarchy
by Azadeh Azad on Sat Apr 04, 2009 04:24 PM PDTDear David,
I have a different take on these two photos. Here is another variation on the same theme:
