This photo taken today hopefully will be the final wake-up call for those who were hoping Akbar Rafsanjani would do anything for Iranians! I don't know how many times some dreamers have to see such photos of likes of Rafsanjani and Khatami to give up on them!

by che khabar e on Tue Aug 18, 2009 01:15 PM PDT"is to minimize arrests, have less torture, makie fairer trials, have more lenient sentences and avoid the death penalty."
How about NO arrests, ZERO torture, FAIR (not fairER) trials? But I'm pretty sure that's what you meant. It took a couple minutes to reason out what you meant by "monkey in the middle", but... I think I got it.
I wonder who was in charge of the seating plans?
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Aug 18, 2009 01:33 PM PDTOr is it strictly a matter of protocol? What Khatami there? Where did Khamenei sit?
Because if I were Rafsanjani and I had any say in it, and I knew that the ONLY thing that matters for the Reform Movement right now is to minimize arrests, keep arrests of the leaders off the table, have less torture, fairer trials, more lenient sentences and avoid the death penalty, that's exactly where I'd ask to sit. Near Ahmadinejad with Larijani between us, and I'd smile my ass off at all his stupid jokes, to show that Larijani is monkey in the middle. Say or no say in the seating, I'd still smile that way.
Ahmadinejad knows that Rafsanjani didn't attend his inauguraton. So does Larijani. It was two weeks ago. Nobody forgot. Why does Mahmood look soooo happy? Who knows? Maybe they just cut a deal. Or maybe he's relieved because Rafsanjani is smiling that way.
And if I were Mousavi with the case being built for my arrest, that's exactly what I'd want Rafsanjani to do. Make Mahmood relax. While I went around saying he's not the president.
Rafsanjani & Antarinejad: Birds of a feather
by Kaveh Nouraee on Tue Aug 18, 2009 10:54 AM PDTor, "fleas of a dog".
David, these people are not gullible, They are complicit.
They're not stupid. They just think everyone else is.
These people shouldn't be ignored. Because they mistake that for acknowledgment and legitimacy for their polluted minds. They need to be exposed for the rotten filth they are, living here, praising these parasitic bastards who have ruined our country while they sit here on their ass and take advantage of and take for granted every freedom that Iranians back home deserve.
I Agree with David Too
by Maryam Hojjat on Tue Aug 18, 2009 06:42 AM PDTThese mullahs such as Rafsanjani, Larijanis and all other are only concern about their Nezam & their finnancial interest. They are NOT IRANIANs Please Remember They are NOT IRANIANS. They have got IRAN as GHANIMAT!.

by David ET on Tue Aug 18, 2009 12:18 AM PDTLast I checked my blog was about Rafsanjani until someone changed it to being about me as someone with "double standard".
and now even going further and publicly accusing me of spreading lies about her without providing any evidence.
As much as I avoid this person, I sure don't understand why she just can't control herself and return the same priviliage to me!
I wish Iranian.com had an ignore button! In real life I guess that would have translated to obtaining a restraining order LOL
Meanwhile I guess I have to get used to these monthly incrusions!

by IRANdokht on Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:14 PM PDTYou can go ahead and call me gullible, wishy washy, stupid, "hezb-e baad" and whatever label you wish to give me. You can keep spreading lies about me, you can keep this entourage of neo-cons praising you for it and have them repeat your nonsense like the parrots that they are. You're the one who craves their validation, not me.
I am still the same person who argued with you about your beloved GWB, his weapons of mass destruction and his lies. You're the one who changes with the wind. I am not the one who changed my views and I am certainly not the one who was wrong.
You can hold the human rights flag up high now and yet blame the victims of human rights violations like you did during Gaza crisis. You can fool many people over and over again, but I have seen your many changes through the years. I have seen the hypocrisy, even if Ostaad didn't want to use that word. But I do agree with him, some day some time you would need to grow up.
You can have your day here and be all self-righteous! But you can't change the reality. Not for people who know you anyway...

I agree with you David
by Artificial Intelligence on Mon Aug 17, 2009 09:29 PM PDTThis is very telling. None of them can be trusted. These are not typical politicians and they should not be trusted or repected. It very telling as to how some people here expect Iranians to treat these venomous dogs them same way as politicians are looked at in REAL democracies. And they say they are not regime apologists? Funny!
Reza Aslan's view :
by David ET on Mon Aug 17, 2009 09:24 PM PDT".....most Iranians balk at labeling Rafsanjani a “reformist.” In fact, Rafsanjani has flipped back and forth between reformist and conservative camps whenever it has suited him.....In the end, the only thing that Rafsanjani truly cares about is Rafsanjani"
It,s not gullibility
by SamSamIIII on Mon Aug 17, 2009 08:58 PM PDTbut voluntary gullibility & in the case of some is just the matter of plain clueless syndrome comparing apples & oranges.

Think Think!
by David ET on Mon Aug 17, 2009 08:19 PM PDTAhanhid: This is not about the smile ! This is about Iranian blood that was shed to have Ahmadinejad there as a president! Ahmadinejad is the one who STOLE people's vote and the presidency with guns, oppression and murder
1- This was not a sinezani event. Being with AN in the same OFFICIAL ceremony is acknowledgement of his presidency
2- Ahmadinejad is the man who ordered plain clothed Basijees and Pasadars to attack, imprison and kill people. Going to the same ceremony that he attends is treason to all who got killed, raped, tortured and the ideals of the people.
3- This was not a negotiating table either that may be considered as OK to attend if necessary. This was an official attendance of THE PRESIDENT, the head of judiciary, the head of Khebregan (Rafsanjani), etc. Rafsanjani just "officially" accepted Ahmadinejad.
4- These ceremonies were built on the government of coup and on blood of Iranians.
5- Rafsanjani stayed there and listened to AN speech and AN left when Rafsanjani started to speak. AN stood his grounds and Akbar Agha who some people had hoped for sold out (as esxpected of course). The rest is/will be PR!
Liberation08: Don't hold your breath for Larijani either. He and his 4 brothers are part of the IR Mafia family, all on top posts.
Mohammad Javad Larijani - Conservative government ideolog Ali Larijani - Head of Parliament Bagher Larijani - Head of Tehran University school of medicineFazel larijani - Iran's cultural attache in Canda !!
He was assigned by Khamenei for 8 years at Guardian Council. Just like Shahrudi he was born in Iraq.
Ostaad: The one who have growing up to do are the gullible ones who only see in front of their nose and constantly follow the wind and in their rush to take a pointer , often say stupid things without thinking only to be sorry that they rushed to judge or defend IR's games , its supporters , Khatami's and Rafsanjani’s one way or another although they cry freedom! The ones who so often fall on the wrong side.
Ahmadinejad and Rafsanjani are 2 sides of the same coin, only fighting for who will be standing on top of the people.
LIKE I SAID IN THE BLOG:
SOME WILL NEVER LEARN !!!
Ditto, IranDokht, some of us have a lot of growing up to do...
by Ostaad on Mon Aug 17, 2009 06:41 PM PDT(politically speaking, of course). I don't think David is a hypocrite, although he's a bit pedestrian when it comes to the matters of statecraft.
He is smiling!
by darius on Mon Aug 17, 2009 06:15 PM PDTWhat is he smiling for?
Do reformist see the new chief justice assignment as a victory?
David, Rafsanjani is a business man first, his politics goes as far as
his business interest goes. They are born into business of deception,
and art of survival. Can't you see how a man with elementary education level
name Imam lead a group well fought , well taught marxist and other
masses into street and then he skillfully masacared them all ?
That should tell youwhat kind of people we dealing with.
I have no doubt they are rotten from inside and soon will be
judged. As we say it in Farsi:
Deero zood dare , ama sokht o sooz nadare.
So what?
by liberation08 on Mon Aug 17, 2009 06:15 PM PDTit is a well known fact that rafsanjani has a lot of disdain for ahmadinejad. one small greeting between the two doesn't change that
what's important about the photo is sadeq larijani. s. larijani might oppose the detentions and show trials, and he has said that there was fraud in the election. the new judiciary head could be an ahmadinejad rival

double standards
by IRANdokht on Mon Aug 17, 2009 06:15 PM PDTWhen foreign politicians disagree, accuse, misrepresent, make fun of each other and at the end they shake hands and go their separate ways, we call it "being civilized".
GAWD forbid if two iranians who have both held the office of presidency and disagreed publicly say hi to each other or wave. Then they have no integrity, no shame, no consideration and don't deserve our trust.
I don't trust those two anyway but the hypocrisy and double standards is just astonishing, couldn't let it go...

Nothing warm between AN and Hashemi is seen from this picture
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Aug 17, 2009 06:01 PM PDTPeople have their set ideas about AN and Hashemi based on their records. However I don't see any exhibition of warm feelings toward AN from Hashemi in this picture. Dear David, I don't want to get into a detailed comment here, but I don't believe your posting of this picture proves anything or as they say in industry , it does not add any value. Sorry to be blunt about it.
