One of the memorable songs of the 1979 revolution that turned into the song of the student movement in Iran. 30 years later the song is back to the streets of Tehran and other cities in Iran:
My elementary schoolmate.
You are with me and my comrade all the way.
We’ve suffered together.
Your tears and sighs are mines as well.
Engraved on this blackboard are our names.
Remaining on our bodies are still the scars of the lash of tyranny and injustice.
This uncultured landscape of ours is covered with weed instead of the green of grass.
Either good or bad, dead is the hearts of all its people.
Your hands and my hands must rip these veils apart.
Who else, except for you and I, could cure our wounds?
My elementary schoolmate.
You are with me and my comrade all the way.
We’ve suffered together.
Your tears and sighs are mines as well.
Engraved on this blackboard are our names.
Remaining on our bodies are still the scars of the lash of tyranny and injustice.
This uncultured landscape of ours is covered with weed instead of the green of grass.
Either good or bad, dead is the hearts of all its people.
Your hands and my hands must rip these veils apart.
Who else, except for you and I, could cure our wounds?
My elementary schoolmate.
You are with me and my comrade all the way.
We’ve suffered together.
Your tears and sighs are mines as well.
Engraved on this blackboard are our names.
Remaining on our bodies are still the scars of the lash of tyranny and injustice.

my old school chum
you’re with me and alongside me
with the cane wielded over our head
you’re the lump in my throat and my sigh
engraved are the names of you and I
on the body of this blackboard
the unrelenting lashes of tyranny
have stayed on our bodies
our uncultured desolate wilderness
with all of its shrubbery being but all weeds
be it good or bad
miserable are all the people
my hands and your hands must tear down this curtain
who other than you and I can find the cure to our ill
Sorry just copied the source , I didnt know
by David ET on Thu Jun 18, 2009 03:03 PM PDTI just copied what was there and I provided the source. I kind of had my doubt when I read but relied on what they wrote about the clip and didn't make much of it anyway because the point was something else anyway.
It's not like there were not plenty of anti-Pahlavi songs then or that they matter now. But anyway the point is as usual lost now !

This song was written after 18-Tir and has nothing to do with 1979 revolution. Please do not drag your anti-pahlavi prejudices into the middle of this movement.
