David: I just left this post on another thread
by Anonymous4now on Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:34 PM PSTI hope that people are not making premature decisions and that Obama mania is not a reactionary and as a result of Bush rejection mania, at any cost.
Hope and change are meaningless words that Carter used to be elected in the wake of the Watergate scandal. He too, like Obama, lacked the experience and was naïve enough to think that good intentions are all that’s needed to affect a change. He liked what he heard in the message of the Iranian revolution and supported it. Likewise, Obama will make the world unsafe by his naïve overtures and oversimplification of issues.
From his own Website: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.”
This is nothing but political expediency and pandering to get a free ride on a popular issue. America does not need this kind of vacillation at a critical time like this. Whether you believe in the original intent of the war or not, if he pulls out troops and has to go back in (which undoubtedly he will) it will be against an emboldened enemy which will have the victory of American withdrawal behind it.
“The best way to press Iraq’s leaders to take responsibility for their future is to make it clear that we are leaving. As we remove our troops, Obama will engage representatives from all levels of Iraqi society – in and out of government – to seek a new accord on Iraq’s Constitution and governance. The United Nations will play a central role in this convention, which should not adjourn until a new national accord is reached addressing tough questions like federalism and oil revenue-sharing.”
Iraq is a divided nation along fanatic religious ideologies, how is your empty threat of leaving going to fix that? Is he naïve enough to believe that pressure is not being put on. But what’s pressure going to do if the people are not willing to live together and want to kill each other? Leaving will almost certainly fragment the country and make it a hot bed for Al-Qaeda activities.
“Obama will launch the most aggressive diplomatic effort in recent American history to reach a new compact on the stability of Iraq and the Middle East. This effort will include all of Iraq’s neighbors — including Iran and Syria. This compact will aim to secure Iraq’s borders; keep neighboring countries from meddling inside Iraq; isolate al Qaeda; support reconciliation among Iraq’s sectarian groups; and provide financial support for Iraq’s reconstruction.”
This is reminiscent of Carter’s failed human right’s policies. He was told off by the Soviets and so tried to put the Shah under pressure for more openness, ignorantly meddling in world affairs, and not thinking about the consequences. How will this policy “keep neighboring countries from meddling inside Iraq”? These are noble goals but meaningless words.
People - Get your
by masoudA on Tue Feb 12, 2008 07:01 AM PSTPeople - Get your PRIORITIES straight. A lot of you are good hearted people - who unfortunately can't get out of your shell and take a birdseye view of the globe. The FREE world - despite all it's faults and defaults - is at war with a joint-venture or terrorists and communists who have yet to get on the first base when it comes to Freedom and human rights. Remember Russia ?? their citizens could not travel around within Russia without permits. Look at the Islamists in Iran - do you realy want their ways to rule the world ?
Now go back and re-assess your priorities.
choices
by David ET on Mon Feb 11, 2008 03:04 PM PSTIt is all about the choices that we have
McCain: Bush policies and more
Hillary: Dishonest - special interest
Obama: //weneedobama.blogspot.com/2008/02/lessig-why-im-4barack.html
Re:
by Ben Madadi on Mon Feb 11, 2008 01:57 PM PSTI have read most of them. I don't really see anything extraordinary about his policies and thoughts. Really :) They are at best average. I do appreciate though his charm, but I have historically seen that charming leaders without truly good and functional plans have not been best for socieities.
Positions
by David ET on Mon Feb 11, 2008 01:06 PM PSTDear Ben
Some of Obamas positios are stated in the above speech and they are also clearly stated in his website: //www.barackobama.com/index.php.
and here is more info including his voting records: //www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Barack_Obama.htm
His positions are as clear if not more clear than what McCain or Hillary has mentioned but the "Obama's not clear position" is another tactic that Hillary camp has created to distract .
eg: Obama was clear from beginning on Iraq while Hillary has flip flopped so many times
Re: David
by Ben Madadi on Mon Feb 11, 2008 07:05 AM PSTI am not a US citizen, so I don't have a vote :)
I have not seen anything about Obama's plan to be anything extraordinary or promising but one thing that does scare me about him is that he actually says nothing concrete!!! How can people support someone who says pretty much nothing? Well, most politicians are like this but some say at least one or two things concrete! Obama is a young talent of public oration, and that's all. I am often scared by vague change. It reminds me of Khomeini and Ahmadinejad and many others. The thing about Obama is rather emotional than anuthing else. Bush-haters choose Obama simply because they hate Bush. I think of Bush as an incompetent, but I don't hate him. I think we shall choose competence and issues and policies rather than emotionally be attracted by good speakers... Hitler, Khomeini, and even Ahmadinejad is a pretty-good speaker and manipulator.
The path to hell is paved with good intentions. We should be careful who we choose and put aside emotions :)
McCain belongs to Dinasour era!
by Anonymous__ (not verified) on Sun Feb 10, 2008 11:42 PM PSTObama may bring some fresh air. Clinton and McCain are already sold to coroporations and lobbysits!

by ruhany on Sun Feb 10, 2008 09:40 PM PSTThis 20 minutes video makes a great case for Barack Obama and was put together by Lawrence Lessig:
" Lawrence Lessig is a Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and founder of the school's Center for Internet and Society. Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, he was the Berkman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and a Professor at the University ofChicago."

by Ben Madadi on Sun Feb 10, 2008 05:08 PM PSTI am not a McCain fan! I like Huckabee but I think he's already out. But I am not an Obama fan either. Between Obama and McCain I would choose McCain and I personally think he will win, but we're ot sure yet Obama will be nominated. McCain would also beat Ms Clinton, I geuss.
Grow Up!
by A Friend (not verified) on Sun Feb 10, 2008 04:44 PM PSTRegan was the creation of Soviet Union. They made him famous in US for their internal problems. Obama is the Bush anti-tesis. Agains every incompetent person from the right there is an incompetent (he understands a lot- but not for White House..)person on the left. If we're lucky, after passing courts and morals and lots of problems by repulicans, we can only send Clinton to White House. Is Clinton the perfect candidate? No. This is what we have to live with now...
Wake up! Obama won't feed you. What is this religious, fenatic obsession with obama. Open your eyes.. There are millions much better than Obama in our Iran!

by Vote4Obama (not verified) on Sun Feb 10, 2008 02:20 PM PSTWhat have Americans accomplished by not negotiating with IRI for the past 30 years? As you can see, mullahs have outsmarted every US administration since Carter because of the shortsighted, arrogant policies of the US. What has the bullish policies of the current administration produced? The IRI is stronger in the region than ever. Bombing Iran would definitely make the regime stronger and more justified in the eyes of millions of people in the region. The best strategy is containment (not appeasement) by negotiation, the way the US finally realized how to handle the Soviet Union.
Irandokht: Very presumptuous
by Anonymousm (not verified) on Sun Feb 10, 2008 01:07 PM PSTIrandokht: Very presumptuous of you to think that I want war and don't have relative of my own in Iran...I have to find out exactly what this negotiation entails item by item before I can vote for Obama...Otherwise, I think he can restore our standing in the world but not by appeasing the mullahs and giving them free reign to oppress Iranians even more with a piece of mind.

by IRANdokht on Sun Feb 10, 2008 01:01 PM PSTDo you think we should vote for people who would not hesistate bombing our friends and relatives?
negotiations could and would bring up the human rights violations in IRI.
Bombin Iran will only empower the current regime.
Obama is our only hope now
