Iranian DNA is such that majority of Iranians cannot deal with democracy, esppecially when sourrounded by other Iranians. We respond well to "toosari" individually and oppression collectively. I am not sure how we have gotten to this point.
Just the same way Americans are very good at ignoring the "pink elephant" in the room, so are we; for 30 years a large percentage of the Iranian people have been living a lie. Why? Women go out with chador, maanto & maghnaeh, but wear mini skirt and low cut dresses in parties, in front of men who are not mahram. Maybe not in payeen shahr but for sure north of khiyaboon aryamehre sabegh.
For 30 years, men pretend to follow Islamic law; but inside their home, they guzzle vodka, Whisky and Beer like its water; hell, vodka is kept in samavar and served in outdoor picnics.
A great majority of Iranians believe religion, especially Islam needs to be kept out of politics but they go on with the charade of being a devout Muslim.
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was in power from 1953 to 1979; 26 years in total. With all the money spent on Savak people arose and toss his ass out. What is happening now? 30 years and noone is doing anything.
Some of us are discussing return of Khatami as if it makes ANY difference. Remember, its velayate motlaghe faghih. During these past 30 years, countries like Spain, S. Korea, Japan or even the tiny Singapore, non with the riches of Iran have progressed so far ahead of Iran that your head spins.
Mean while, we and our bretheren in Iran worry about Jews and Israel, Bahais and Palestinians; when are the Iranians going to toss Khamenei, Ahmadinejdad and the rest of these bastards out; when are they going to throw Islam out of the government and push it back into homes and mosques where it belongs?
When are the Iranians going to remove the first I from IRI ?! All this talk about evolutionary change in Iran is bull crap because it will either never happen or it will take another 30 years during which all the Iranian wealth will have been stolen by these filthy akhoonds. Only a revolution can toss out Islam and bring out true democracy and secularism.

I think Faramarz has a point - just didn't say it well
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Wed Feb 11, 2009 09:30 AM PSTI mean look here what is happening in that dumb Reza Pahlavi blog - If you disagree with Reza Pahlavi and find him shady - you are automatically in love with Khomeini, Ahmadinejad and want to have Rafsanjani's baby.
So yes, I agree a bit with FF here. Look at how people get treated when they disagree. NO ROOM FOR DEMOCRAZY......
Now the son of a monarchist sexy comes along and says the word democracy and we are suddenly "democratic" BUT ONLY IF WE AGREE WITH HIM!
I also take back what I said about FF's blogs in general. I think the blog about Shekam and khoresht in So Cal was great.

EXACTLY! Abarmard, Marge / Faramarz,
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Wed Feb 11, 2009 07:12 AM PSTLook, Faramarz, I like you and you wrote a very moving humanitarian piece recently about Doctors Without Borders. But there are certain mental blocks you have. Do you think the Doctors Without Borders would hold certain beliefs you seem to implicitly harbor? By implicitly stating that Jews and Bahai are not Iranian (which I'm sure you didn't mean to but fact is YOU DID IT!....) it reveals a cultural chauvinism at the very least.
Faranarz, in a recent blog about Bad Love, Good Hate, j. hopped right on board right away and said your blogs are full of hate. I read it and wrote that I couldn't see the hate, just an argument against Islam as a backward force, a widely held position. It was rational and civil, it said Muslims need de-programming from their negative religion but it DIDN'T say there was anything inherently wrong with them as humans. So I didn't think it was hateful although I certainly had issues with it.
Now I am starting to understand how being familiar with more of your writings, j. said this about you. However the blog on Doctors Without Boders reveals otherwise. I think if you would just scrutinize a few core beliefs you hold and throw them into the bonfire where they belong, the rest would take care of itself.
Best regards,
Rosie
I did not read this blog
by Abarmard on Tue Feb 10, 2009 08:01 PM PST"Iranian DNA is such that majority of Iranians cannot deal with democracy"
I stopped right there.
Unless this was set as a joke, which I did not read enough to notice. If this is an attention getter, I don't appreciate it.
RO - this is the usual case with Faramarz. It happens EVERY TIME
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Tue Feb 10, 2009 06:07 PM PSThe contradicts himself and I think he just wanted to get the WATER + OIL thing into his blog. His examples for why don't make sense. His blogs are frustrating.
In short, you are right. Of course bahai and jews have to do with democratic movements - they are victims of the IRI. so we have to start with the victims..... faramarz wants a broad simple approach. no details shmetails.
How can anyone take this seriously when it talks about democracy
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Feb 10, 2009 05:48 PM PSTand implicitly says that Jews and Bahai are not Iranian?
Can't help but laugh at this post
by Mehdi on Tue Feb 10, 2009 05:36 PM PSTSame old meaningless cries for revolution, or forceful regime change by the US and allies, as if anybody believes that the intention of a half a trillion dollar a year US military is to bring about democracy in the world. One quick look at Iraq tells us the truth.
Iranian people are not what you say they are and do not do what you say they do. A small minority are so and do such. Therefore, it will not be democracy to force the desires of a small few over majority. So at least get your terminology right.
You are right
by MRX1 on Tue Feb 10, 2009 04:52 PM PSTbut the problem is we have not suffered enough! The mullah's are smart. they keep the population half starve. This social, political and nutritional starvation does not leave a time for people to think of higher things in life such as freedom, democracy you name it. soulions are :
A) Removal of this regime by U.S through fusing orce. with lamo in white house I see no chance in that.
B) Another twenty some years at which time population will grow larger and poverty will increase ten fold. When 90% of population finaly live in despaair and starvation, then they may rise collectively.
C) a miracle- some how some nationalist will rise in power and with iron fist put's order in the house.
Sorry Faramarz but you just gave yourself away..
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Feb 10, 2009 03:29 PM PSTyou said: we and our brethren in Iran worry about Jews and Israel, Bahais and Palestinians.
There have been Iranian Jews in Iran since even before the Achaemenids, I understand the oldest center is Mashad. Bahaism is an indigenous Iranian religion. As you know its major concentration in Iran is in Yazd.
Your comment reveals a cultural chauvinism as to what is "pure" Iranian. In light of this skewed vision your other observations about what is best and why for (your) Iran are suspect and need to be rethought.
