The entry for hero in Wikipedia defines it as:
“characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence."
If one could be jaded enough, story of Reza is not that different than many other victims of rape by the officials of the IRR, the Islamist Rapist Republic. What sets Reza’s case aside is that while knowing he is powerless in facing the IRR goons, has the courage to overcome his physical/psychological pain, sacrifice his anninimity and risk more savagery at the hands of the IRR officials just for the greter good.
According to news reports Reza has become the first Iranian man, most probably still a teenager, who has step forward with his story. He has subjected himself to medical rape examination and brutal accusatory interrogations by the very same IRR which has raped him.
Any way one looks at it Reza fits the difinitio of hero to the T.

Fred, I like it when you are humanistic. Although I believe that you have your own dirty agenda in mind.
People of Iran will answer to those conservative asses in time. Just make sure you and shoot ali are on our side. We are those who went on streets, remember? We are the Reformists.
Well Said

We all have the scars.
We all have suffered.
We all have been raped by the IRI.
Thank you for posting this.
by vildemose on Mon Aug 24, 2009 05:03 PM PDTThank you for posting this. While bodies are being dumped in secret graves we are writing about "love".
The story has not generated any debate as it would have otherwise if these bodies were Gazan.
