Now that the first week of the 2010 Football (Soccer) World Cup in South Africa is over, which team do you think has more chances to win the cup, or which 2 teams would get to the Final game?
Soccer, in my opinion, is the closest game similar to life itself, I mean the structure of the game and the unpredictability of the final score, of who is the winner and who the loser, all that make soccer the most similar game to the real life itself!
As life with all its political/economical/social events is unpredictable, so is the outcome of a soccer game or a big tournament like the World Cup which gathers the attention of at least a couple of billion people in our planet!
Yes soccer is unpredictable but that does not stop people betting and predicting the outcome of this or that game or the result of a big tournament like the World Cup....and so will we do now!
Now all teams have played 2 games and Argentina is my bet for the winner of this tournament even though I admit that prediction is a very difficult thing, but since we have to do it, I say: I think Argentina will win because of the 2 games I saw, especially the second game against Korea where the superior technique of the Argentinans was outstanding.
Korea is a very tough team even at the world level, but Argentina played so technical and superior that I think they are the best chances for this year's games; or at least so far, they have shown that they deserve to win the games more than any other team..., only if Doctor Maradona could hold his tongue and his eccentric behavior!
Netherlands and Brazil are the other 2 chances for this year's winner.
What do you think? Who is going to make it this year?

I love doing this
by Doctor X on Sun Jun 20, 2010 10:15 PM PDTThank you mehman jan for giving us all this chance:)
You guys are giving way too much credit to these argentinians. Granted that they have only had a chance to demolish one of the not so strong defense lines in the world. Do you remember their 6-1 routing against Bolovia not long ago:) And let us not forget how many times the Nigerian Goalee denied both messi and tevez.
I think that germans have demonstrated the most solid performance so far, offensivlely despite that 1-0 loss to serbia, which i blame squarely on their central defensive players... You take Mertesaker out who else is left:( But nothing new there. They have experienced weakness in that area most of the time.
I am much impressed By mexico and uruguay's performances. I think mexico with this new kid on the bloc, super duper mid fielders will make it to the 3rd round. Man, i have never seen a finisher like this guy in a long time.
The netherlands. They are playing hard and they mean buisness. Most definitely in the top 4. Never seen a combination with this amazing chemistry since their 78 team.
Brazil has been horrible. I loved their second goal against N.korea. But then again koreans fought super hard. heck. We played much better than Brazil against them and we managed to come away with a tie. I don't see them going too far.
Out of the second tier Teams... I wanna see Algeria and New zealand move up. They are playing decent football.
My ideal final would be Germany vs Holland. I have to check to see what teams from what brackets would face each other off... But that would be an awsome show down.
Argentina all the way.
by Majid on Sun Jun 20, 2010 10:07 PM PDT(Fact)
No European nation ever won the world cup when held outside their continenet!
So who's left? Argentina you say? I agree..........:-)

by Mehman on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:45 PM PDTBrazil is certainly doing great but what about Italy and England?
//www.fifa.com/worldcup/highlights/video/video=1252285/index.html
They are not doing good this year. Italy did not deserve the last world cup either, if it wasn't for Zeidan's reaction... well, past is past.
Yea, but Germany is good and their lost to Serbia was an accident.

by hamsade ghadimi on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:42 PM PDTif argentina and germany both top their groups, they'll potentially will meet in quarter-finals. in that case, their next games in the knockout stage probably will be argentina-mexico, germany-us. argentina definitely seems flawless so far and i think the game will be higher scoring than the game in your link. :)
Usual suspects
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:32 PM PDTArgentina looks good. But the Brazilians put on a great show last night. Italians and Germans are always in contention. I thought England would be too this time vali ta hala keh ter zadan :)

by Mehman on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:31 PM PDTArgentina and Germany in the Final?.... That is a good possibility.
But the winner?! I will go for this rather:

i agree that the south
by hamsade ghadimi on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:19 PM PDTi agree that the south americans have great teams in this world cup: argentina, brazil, chile, uruguay, paraguay. however, i think only one of them will make the final and it will lose to germany. of course, germany has to beat one of my favorites, ghana, to qualify for next stage. if germany qualifies for next round, there's possible argentina-germany matchup in the quarterfinals.

by yolanda on Sun Jun 20, 2010 09:17 PM PDTWow! Thank you, Mehman, for the video.......I really like the bicycle kick! I have a movie called "Escape to Victory", Pele had a bicycle kick there:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=erQdTUdeABI
I showed the bicycle kick to people at work many times......we blogged a little on WC (Mexico vs. France) a couple of days ago:
//iranian.com/main/blog/latina/childhood-memories
I hope US does well......even though they don't have a lot of fans like in other countries....American soccer players do work very hard and they played their hearts out in Slovenia game.

by Mehman on Sun Jun 20, 2010 08:38 PM PDTthe US and Mexico are doing both well and have good chances to step up to the next round. I think US will go up this year to the one eight finals, they only have to be careful in their game with Algeria who does not have much hope for going up.
and Mexico did pretty well in the first 2 games especially in defeating France!
watch these fantastic moves by Pele, yolonda and enjoy:

by yolanda on Sun Jun 20, 2010 08:12 PM PDTMy pick is Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands. Argentina's Gonzalo H is cool that he was able to score 3 goals in one game! Argentine players had a lot of Chemistry in the Argentina vs. S. Korea game.
I like World Cup for the emotion it brings to the world! My team is Mexico 'cause soccer is the #1 sport in Mexico.....here in US, soccer players are under-paid and have low status....I rarely see soccer players in commercials......not enough support and not having enough fans. I see Mexican soccer players in many commecials.......their fans are ranging from regular people, little kids all the way to president of Mexico......
I do want to see US do well......it is sad that their winning goal was disallowed.....it is heart-breaking!
Thank you for the fun blog!
yes farshadjon
by Mehman on Sun Jun 20, 2010 05:17 PM PDTYou are right! The south American teams have performed much better so far with a far superior technique than their European counterparts, a higher class of soccer, both in terms of individual techniques and team play.
I remember this was not the case years ago, like don't know if you remember the 1974 world cup in Germany, I was a kid but followed the games on TV, and the 2 teams of Germany and Netherlands with all their stars like Beken Bauer, Gerd Muller, Overat, Paul Britner, Sep Mayer, Yuhan Krayuf, Niskens, Ari Han and... played super technical games and far better than most european in the 2010 Cup! Netherlands defeated 2-0 Brazil in 1974, but now second class S. American easily defeat great European teams!
Thanks for the blog, Mehman jan!
by farshadjon on Sun Jun 20, 2010 04:44 PM PDTMy vote goes to Argentina as well.Having said that I am impressed by South American teams performance in particular, Paraguay and Argentina.
Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Brazil, as well as Argentina have shown superior technique and team work in this tournament compare to the teams from other continents. A big disappointment for European teams like Italy, France, England as well as Spain.
Now, I can understand why it was so difficult for Argentina to be qualified to the world cup in the first place. But again, based on what I have seen in the first two matches, Argentina squad has a character to win this world cup.
