I am bothered by so many advertisers of so called “singles” websites that use semi-nude pictures of women to advertise. On many Internet sites, one sees Single Thai women, Single Russian women, Single Chinese women, Mate1, etc. One has to wonder about the source of funding to advertise so extensively.
How many of these singles sites are legitimate? How many of these sites are not infiltrated by scam artists? Are professional and public Internet sites so desperate for revenue that they accept money from these advertisers of questionable business practice?
What would be next? Advertisers who sell military gear or narcotics? I agree with the suggestion that has been made that having membership dues to help defray the cost of maintaining Iranian.com would result in more professional and less sensationalized website.

Doctor Mohandes jan, my name is not on the ad for the book.
by Anahid Hojjati on Thu Mar 03, 2011 09:36 AM PSTI meant if the software does a search between my name and Jasmin 's name, some associations come up since we are in same writers group, or may be because I wrote a comment on a blog about her book here or something like this. Therefore, they target that ad to me.

by Doctor mohandes on Thu Mar 03, 2011 07:11 AM PSTThere is some Truth to the claim that these ads or some of them are targetted. I could also validate that based on my own experience too. Let's just say i have dared to expand my horizon and be a naughty little man:)))
I also ms. darznik's book add but certainly not with your name anywhere. and now i am looking at a droid deal.
Where else did i venture off to...? hmmm...they never tried to sell me anything on that site...they just wanted me to see and enjoy....
Oh. oops. Sorry. Thinking outloud:)
Dear VPK, I guess they know you are looking for rugs.

Thanks VPK
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 12:36 PM PSTI honestly do not know if there is targetting or not for ads on IC or how great it is. I see that in past couple days I see the ad for Jasmin Darznik's book. Is this targetting because somehow my name has been seen with her name in some associations or is everyone seeing this ad? I don't know. But I like this ad better.
Anahid
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:47 AM PSTSome of them are not all. Also the software that does the targeting is not that great.
About targeted
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:43 AM PSTI am just talking about my own experience. Maybe I am wrong. But I visit a lot of carpet sites. I get a lot of carpet ads. I think *some* of the ads are targeted not all of them.
PS,
I also get a lot of ads for dating. I just ignore them.
Dear DM, it depends on one's personality also
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 10:25 AM PSTMy experience confirms what you write. The random trips have better results, but I don't know what you mean by meat market, I mean meeting people in real grocery store and real coffee shop. I think it also depends on one's personality. Some people are the type that these sites works for them and some are not.

Hate these Single sites!!!
by Doctor mohandes on Wed Mar 02, 2011 09:34 AM PSTAH
sorry for your misfortune!!! but I really believe making random trips to your local super or meat market, or even church, entails more chances and improves the odds of one meeting the semi-right person that these phoney baloney match making site with the nerver-wrecking Jingos pushing their products.
On the subject of Singles and ads
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 09:29 AM PSTFacebook has this feature (zoosk) that everyday, it sends me an e-mail that it has scientifically matched me with some guy. They are all middle eastern. so far, so good but I am noticing that everyday the guys are uglier than the day before and couple days ago, it matched me with someone named
حسن دیزی
please note that it was not really Hassan but I changed it for privacy reasons. picture looked like the guy was taking bread out of tanoor or something like this.
Hot off my e-mail; the one they "scientifically" matched me today, has a picture in which he is kissing a girl on the cheeck but it is not a friendly kiss on the cheek. The girl has a huge smile and he has bent his head to kiss her on the cheek. so romantic. Makes one wonder so what happened to this beautiful lady.
LOL
by Souri on Wed Mar 02, 2011 09:11 AM PSTI just noticed this blog, Mr Ala. So intersting!
I love also Faramarz comment :)
LOL Faramarz jon, it's so true!!!
Good luck to all of you : the Singles !
Now this is weird, why do I see ad for Asian girls
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 08:04 AM PSTIt is hard to figure out.
mr. ala, i also do not like
by hamsade ghadimi on Wed Mar 02, 2011 07:35 AM PSTmr. ala, i also do not like these advertisements. even if these sites are not scams or used in slavery of women, i think that it definitely promotes exploitation of women (and weird men). the ads are somewhat targeted on this site. jj alluded to it before and i have experienced it first-hand when i was looking to buy a car. there were ads for the exact models of cars that i was looking to buy for weeks on this site.
however, i think membership dues open a new can of worms. the member users will become the stakeholders for the site and there will be more bosses on this site than regular users. we saw a glimpse of that after i.com's fundraising. some who were offended by certain blogs or features complained that they've given money to the site and they "demand" for the objectionable material to be taken down.
although i haven't used redwine's link, i think it's the most useful suggestion at this juncture.
VPK, I don't believe ads on IC are targetted,
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 06:40 AM PSTVPK, I seriouly doubt that ads on IC are targetted. If it is targetted, the software doing the targetting is very off.
thanks Iranian123, that is exactly the point
by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 02, 2011 06:33 AM PSTI think this should be easy to understand.
VPK, what you say is not true
by Iranian123 on Wed Mar 02, 2011 06:25 AM PSTIf a person is getting a lot of "inappropriate" ads maybe they should check the web sites they recently visited
Secondly, people like the author and Azadeh are trying to make a deeper argument here - it is not about censorship but exploitation of some of these women.
And the Worst Part!
by Faramarz on Wed Mar 02, 2011 05:36 AM PSTAnd the worst part is that once in a while in the ads you see someone that you like or would love to meet. So you sign up and wait anxiously for your matches and then you get a bunch of pictures and profiles of women that if you see on the street, you most likely run to the opposite sidewalk!
I agree with COP
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Mar 02, 2011 05:10 AM PSTFreedom is just that. So please no censorship. Besides "ads" on IC are targeted. If a person is getting a lot of "inappropriate" ads maybe they should check the web sites they recently visited. That is the criteria the ads are based on.

by Red Wine on Tue Mar 01, 2011 08:44 AM PSTDear friends,if you do not wish to see single/porn advertising that is in the pages you have to use IFS (Internet Filter Software).
In this way the software to block what you do not want to see.
dear Mohammad ala, thanks for your blog
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Mar 01, 2011 12:45 AM PSTsomeone wrote about this couple weeks ago and today I just saw too many ads like this. People will probably laugh but I would not feel too bad if there were ads showing single men too but when they just show single and particularly some Asian girls, it just does not look good.
Advertisers of questionable business practice, indeed
by Azadeh Azad on Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:21 PM PSTThank you, Mr. Ala, for bringing up this issue. Some of these websites are fronts for trafficking of women & their forced prostitution. I totally agree with the idea of membership dues.
